Obama fundraising drops as McCain's cash dwindles
WASHINGTON – Barack Obama and John McCain enter the final days of the presidential campaign amid dwindling reserves, with Obama hindered by a sudden drop in fundraising and McCain restrained by spending limits.

Obama, the Democratic nominee, spent more than $105 million during the first two weeks of October, according to new campaign finance reports. He reported raising only $36 million for his campaign during that period, about half the fundraising pace he enjoyed in September.

11. And down the stretch they come!
It's all very exciting. Feeling good about our position. Ahead by several lengths coming down to the wire.

2. I just gave Obama a donation.
We all need to support him until he actually wins the election.

It's amazing how much he has been able to raise.

3. It's not surprising that either candidate would see a drop in fundraising now.
We're getting close, and people are seriously hurting for money across the country. I wish the media wouldn't spin it as a drop in support. Plenty of us out here support him with all of our hearts, but just do not have any more money to give. :(

12. Agreed. I'd love to give, as I have done regularly since the NH primary, but
my husband has been unemployed for the past two months and we've been living off one paycheck. As it were, I'm behind on one utility payment.

Hubby started a new job a few weeks ago and his first paycheck is the 30th. I might be able to make one last donation to Obama for America then.

4. How is it possible to spend 105 million in 2 weeks?
Can it be Obama camp prepaid all TV time till election day? The ad buys reports say he spent about 50 million in these 2 weeks...

6. Yes. It was already mentioned by several MSM pundits that Obama has already purchased
almost all the available ad space for the next two weeks. Throw in 10 million or so for that 30 minute special.

15. That's it really - he OWNS the airwaves for the remainder of the campaign
Money well spent IMO. Just needs enough for a spot ad here and there and payin his massive ground effort and we'll be there - election day!

8. I wasn't planning on donating anything more, until I saw this...

and this is what the mailer says on the inside:

and this:

McCain "Absolutely" Proud Of Obama Terrorist Mailer

"Last week, the Republican National Committee sent out a particularly nasty mailer suggesting Barack Obama would talk to terrorist leaders. The mailer reads, "Barack Obama. Not Who You Think He Is," along with pictures that evoke the 9/11 hijackings. Asked if he was proud of the pamphlet by Missouri's KSDK, John McCain replied, "Absolutely."

That did it for me. I dug deep, and came up with another donation. These people are just too ugly and hateful to run this country.

"In addition to launching a massive robocall campaign raising Obama's past association with Bill Ayers as a campaign issue, the Republican National Committee is out with a vicious attack mailer suggesting that the Democratic nominee is not just soft on terror, but willing to talk to terrorist leaders."

9. That almost made me sorry that I had already given Obama the legal limit, but I will give the DNC.

13. M$M consistently carrying the OH NOES1! vibe - $36m is nothing to sneeze at
and if Obama were to stay at that pace, he'd have around $72m at the end of the month and let's not compare that to what the Mccain campaign is limited to.

I couldn't give before the deadline but I can today and I plan to, I hope they can still use it.

14. I donated again last night and a couple of days ago also -
I think alot of people thought the last effective date to give would be September, since that would be the last public report and they'd know what they had on hand in October. Then with the record fundraising, people probably got a little complacent. There was a big push to fundraise over the last few days, hopefully that will have had the desired effect.

16. I think people have stopped donating to a "done deal" and have looked towards downticket races ...
... I think fivethirtyeight.com even recommended people do so.

17. This is hysterical. $36 million in TWO WEEKS?? Any other campaign would be
dancing in the street! That means he is on track to EASILY exceed $50 million for October. The only reason it looks small is that Obama had such an unbelievable September. Wasn't everybody THRILLED when he did something like $55 million in August?
