Before you break out your flamethrowers, please hear me out. The central message that Obama has been hitting on for years is that we are one America--neither red or blue. We are one people. The Rove machine seeking to use the same-old same-old destructive and divisive BS it has used for years. It is this formula that has gotten us to where we are now as a nation. The Rovian politicos apply the formula and our side supplies its inverse.

Rather, I would encourage you all to do what Barack did when race was first interjected. He rose to the occasion by using it as a teaching moment. The condescending grenades launched by McCain/Palin presents yet another one of those teaching moments--this time addressing the diversity of opinion and the nature of citizenship. We do not need to be acrimonious and equally snide. If nothing else, learn from Barack to turn a negative argument into a positive argument for change. He leads by example.

Our nation will rise and prosper again when we all, both sides of the aisle, begin shunning the ideologues and start looking for solutions from everyone. This is how this amazing new coalition is being formed. What Barack has done has been less about creating Democrats than creating a philosophy of governance that calls for the citizen as participant at all levels. We will rise as Americans fully invested in a better future for our children, our nation, and the planet on which we live. That communal approach will bring others up with us. What better way to address the political, civil, and social problems of this fragile globe?

1. Of course, we are all Americans.
Howard Dean was out hammering this yesterday.
