Who out there thinks Luke Russert is a great rising star on MSNBC?
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 09:22 AM by Ozma
Give him a couple years, he'll have his own show!

My opinions only. But I am impressed with him!

We can also read his blog at LukeRussert.MSNBC.COM

1. Not me...
I have a real issue with him. First, I don't like him that much. He seems pretty snide.

Second, I don't think someone should automatically get a job because his dad had a job and died. Such sentimental nepotism tarnishes MSNBC's credibility.

I don't particularly like him either but
do you really think MSNBC has much credibility left to tarnish? Tom Drunkaw's little hissyfit over Olbermann's popularity has pretty much destroyed it/

Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 09:27 AM by ErinBerin84
But he just always seems to state the obvious (if that) to me...and it's really awkward whenever the anchors reference his dead dad every time Luke is there. But again, seems like a nice kid, I don't think I would have been able to handle myself as well right after my father had passed away. Other than that, I wish that they would have someone with actual talent on...so many of the people on MSNBC are already on bc of nepotism...

27. That may be true....
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 09:43 AM by RichGirl
But because of who his father was, he learned a lot just like everybody who "takes over the family business". Like all other children of celebrities it's mixed. On the one hand, he gets a foot in the door. On the other hand, expectations are great and he'll get more criticism then someone new.

I like him. But, he'll have to prove himself.

I think Chelsea Clinton probably knows more about politics than most anybody her age or older. So she has that advantage if she chose to go into it. But, still, like anyone else, she would have to prove herself.

Lots of children of well-knowns, celebs or political do make it, in politics for better or worse, Bush George/Jeb, Evan Bayh, Al Gore, etc. News people, that annoying Chris Wallace.

EVERONE has challenges. Luke has different challenges.

5. I Don't Want To Disrespect Him Or You
But the notion that Obama is not winning the states that scientifically conducted polls suggest he is winning because Luke has a gut feeling he isn't and it will come down to Colorado is a theory in search of evidence...

36. Well, David Shuster mentioned that McCain was appearing in CO
...and Luke Russert said "That's McCain the maverick! Pull the money, and send the man."

To me, this suggested two possible interpretations: it hadn't even occurred to Russert that sending McCain and entourage to a few rallies is cheaper than TV buys and staff, or, more likely, that Russert was shoveling. Either way, it was breathtakingly stupid.

40. He is already a whore, seriously ...
it literally took him ONE day to be assimilated.

The rolled him out during the DNC. His first appearance was on Saturday, outside with KO and some others. His niche was the "youth vote." The segment he did that day, he just freely spoke, and given that he was talking about BO, it was mostly favorable to BO, and he didn't mention McCain really at all.

Rough around the edges, obviously not trained in the art much and all, it was what it was.

Next day they had him on to talk about the youth vote, and it was pure cookie cutter corporate whoredom - talked up McCain's efforts to outreach to the youth vote, then morphed into how this was BIG TROUBLE for BO, cause he couldn't win without the youth vote. Totally negative tone toward BO, kissing McCain's butt.

It was astounding, watching what you see with these people over time happen over night.

Sorry folks, the way the MSNBC people drivel over this toad, they have absolutely ZERO awareness relative to his father, who they ALL, even KO, continue to treat as the godfather of journalism. As long as this kid whores to the right, he is going to have a career there in some way shape or form, and he if catches any breaks along the way, they WILL advance him.

I, as most, find him talentless and horribly lacking in depth, but ...

18. Luke just stated the "unmentionable" although, to us, it's the obvious.
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 09:33 AM by protect our future
He brought up the '04 election and suggested the OBL tape was responsible for Bush being reelected.

He mentioned the possibility of a similar tape or a terrorist attack before this election and said no, the race was NOT over. Suggested a tape or terrorist attack might swing the election to McCain.

Now, that's news to a lot of people -- the people who pay little attention until right before an election.

Other media personalities don't want to bring this up. I am glad Luke did.

I think he has possibilities and I do not find him average at all.

20. I haven't seen him on MSNBC yet
but my opinion of them having him on at all is in memory of his dad more than anything (unless he has credentials backing him that I'm not aware of)... I think they were all pretty shook up after that and having any Russert might have been the salve for a time.

He is young and he might not be as good as his Dad but he is only what, 22? He is ten years younger then me and he seems pretty mature. His Mom is a nice lady too. Russert was not my favorite reporter but he was decent enough. Brokaw gets on my nerves and Tim was at least more enjoyable to watch then Brokaw. His kid is allright.

30. Luke is Nepotism and nothing more
It is disgusting that he has that job at all. He is unpleasant, unqualified, smirky and without a thought of his own in his head.
He has his job because his famous Daddy dropped dead, and for no other reason. When Luke is on, it makes the entire network look cheap and tawdry, and I begin wondering what the other on air talent had for connections, or what they did to get the gig, which is clearly not based on merit, but on cronyism and nepotism. I watch the other readers with him and I wonder who they blow to keep the gig, or if they all have a powerful Daddy getting them the job. I think less of all of them, each time he is on, as I rush to the remote to switch his unworthy mug off my screen.
I assume the OP is Luke, or one of his family, or school mates. Luke is a patsy, a hack, a shill, a stooge. Stage weight. A waste of air time.
I think he is a disgustingly untalented opprotunist.

33. It's just the ongoing Russert lovefest.
Little Luke doesn't have the chops to cut it on the national scene. If he REALLY wants to be a journalist, he needs to pay his dues for a few decades, and learn some things.

How may elections could he even have voted in? At most, this would be the second, and it hasn't even happened yet. And he's qualified to be a commentator on presidential politics? I think not.

Oh. He needs to get a damn haircut too. The sixties called. They want their hairstyle back.
