and this is why:
Way back early on, I think in the first or second debate, McCain used the torture issue as his example of how he was separating himself from Bush. He told everyone that Bush supported torture and that he, McCain, didn't. I turned to my wife, and I said, Woah, that is not going to make the Bush crime family too happy with McCain. As the campaign wore on, and Obama kept plugging away at how McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time, McCain was baited into further attacking the Bush administration's policies more and more in order to support his claims of being a maverick. There have even been some times recently when McCain literally listed the ways that the Bush administration fucked up, even with how they ran the war so badly as one item among 5 or 6 other things that he listed.
In his desperate attempt to separate himself from his own Party and Bush, he has begun bashing the daylights out of Bush and in some cases his own party's policies. In effect, I believe that this has set off waves of distrust and accusations of disloyalty among the Bush cabal and their Party's elite. I honestly think that within their inner circles, the people who make the Republican Party tick are privately calling McCain a disloyal little fucker who turned on his own people in order to build himself up in the eyes of Reagan Democrats and Independents. In turn, I think the people who pull all the strings for Republicans, including the Swift Boat types, are saying "fuck you" to McCain...."You're all on your own now, son."
Considering what a marvelous job Obama has done with his campaign and what a desperate affair McCain's campaign has been, the impending disaster for McCain is inevitable.
Even in some of the reddest states, it wouldn't surprise me at all if a great number of Bush loyalists do not show up at the polls on November 4th to support McCain because of the way McCain has opted to turn on Bush and his own Party. You just don't attack your own and get away with it, no matter which Party you're in. I think John McCain has made as many enemies on his own side as he has on the Democratic side.
Another result of this is that I don't think we are going to see any big surprise attacks of the Swift Boat variety in the last week of this election unless they come from McCain's own wife, Cindy, which is just about all that John McCain has got left, considering what a complete disaster Sarah Palin has been.
