GOP Disinformation campaign? "Dems to eliminate 401-Ks"

Heard this on our NEWS radio station this morning, and hints of it on RW radio last night.

"Some Dems in Congress" (No one names them) are planning/looking into ways to eliminate 401-Ks, remove the tax deferments, and force investment in Treasury instruments instead of equity in the private sector (stocks, mutual funds, etc).

That the Dems would something this stupid 2 weeks ahead of an election strains credibility to say the least, and the 'analyst' they had on this morning was a total, literally hysterical RW shill - I wish I could remember his organization.

Needless to say, I can't find anything about this in the regular media - anyone else hear this? I would not be the least bit surprised if it were only on RW radio, but this was an alledged 'straight' news story.

1. Orrin Hatch was blabbing about this on MSNBC yesterday
and going off into a crazy tangent, wagging his finger around...Norah was like "Uh, thank you, we are running out of time" and Hatch gave a NASTY look and said "Um, I would like to make another point???" and she said "Sorry...outa time."

10. Saw it too I think
I think I saw that same interview it was like Hatch was trying to set a new world record for the most talking points mentioned in one interview. I guess Norah cut him off before he reached the record.

2. Hey, personally i'd rather have the Dems...
invest my 401k in treasury bonds than have the Republicans crash the economy rendering my 401k completely worthless. I guess one has to pick their battles...

Besides, no member of the Democratic party is trying to take away peoples 401k's, nothing to see here people, move along :D

5. Didn't the Republicans already almost do that
with the drop in the stock market? Most 401k accounts are pretty much toast now.

6. Hey, I think the Republicans have done a pretty good job of de-facto forcing investments in t-bills

They're the only thing that have provided a safe return over the last 8 years.

12. It would totally be under my radar if I heard it on hate radio...
...but to have it presented as straight news pisses the shit out of me (to mix an unfortunate and gross metaphor)

8. Working overtime to counteract public learning about McHate taxing medical benefits or
planning to cut $800 billion from MEDICARE AND MEDICAID.

More people are learning about McHate's plans so the Republicans are desperately trying to instill fear in Obama's plans and they've shown us they don't mind lying.

GM and some other companies are doing their part by eliminating matching funds to 401K's

11. The important part to this is not the story, but the fact that it was presented as NEWS
I'm writing the station and also filing it as a rumor with obama.com

14. This is a bad thing?
There was a time when people got PENSIONS instead of 401s. I, for one, do NOT like having my retirement depend on the stock market. I saw a quarter of my 401 disappear in 2002, and have been too scared to look at it this time, but it is the only option I am given. My personal savings grow and vanish, dependent upon my annual health expenses and my daughter's employment situation.

I would LOVE to see someone come up with an alternative to handing my savings over to the crooks on Wall Street.

17. Shoot. Dems don't have to do anything at all to make 401-Ks disappear.
The Republican unfettered free markets will disappear them all by itself, with or without an election.
