Based upon my experiences, these sorts of lies are generally desperate attempts at gaining the attention of somebody she feels jilted by.

Given the circumstances of this specific case, I'd say it was a fellow worker on teh McCain camapaign. Thsu, she becomes a martyr for the team in order to gain teh attention of her unrequited love.

It is time for everyone emotionally, psychologically attached to the Republican Party to take a careful look at why.

There are many good, stable people who feel like they are being repeatedly gut-punched right now and if we can express compassion to them we will get a lot farther together. I was an Edwards supporter and I felt gut-punched when he admitted his affair, what is happening in the GOP right now is much deeper and more broad a revelation that decent citizens who have voted Republican been deceived.

If she had to do it, she could have just said it was an average Obama supporter. But no, she had to do the scary, six foot Black man cliche and almost start a race war.

I was a kid when Susan Smith came on the scene but I will never forget her on Good Morning America, crying with her husband. I will never forget watching the footage of community members searching for that phantom Black man. I will never forget the video of her car being pull for the water, her children still strapped in their car seats. She can have problems from now until tomorrow but when you provide a description of an attacker that doesn't exist, I lose any sympathy for you. Besides, who says she has mental health issues? To label her as such is unfair to those with actual problems.
