Ashley Todd needs serious help

She is obviously a distrubed young woman. As somebody who has worked with the mentally ill people and have a family history I honestly believe she needs our sympathy rather than our scorn. That is not to excuse what she did. She must still pay the price, but hopefully now she will get the help she needs.

On edit: I don't disagree with any of you who disagree with me. What she did was terrible and she will have to pay for her crimes. I still feel sympathy for anybody, of any race, who I believe (and it has to be determined) might be mentally ill.

11. I can't pretend to know that.
I just think that it's possible that she is a partisan hack that was looking to cause a public disruption in an effort to help her candidate of choice. If that's the case, and we dismiss her actions as being of someone who is mentally ill, then we give her heinous acts a pass. And until she is examined by a medical professional to determine if she is indeed mentally ill, I won't assume that she is in an effort to be nice.

What she did was despicable, and she deserves to be punished. She has not shown that she deserves our sympathy.

IMO once you start self abusing and lying to the police it is a sign that something is quite amiss... but you are correct, that does not make it diagnosable.

I definitely agree with you that something is amiss with this young woman, but I don't think we know enough to make a conclusion about her mental state. I'm sure we will know more in time as more details are released.

4. I agree.
Hopefully this will serve as a reminder to people that their are unbalanced individuals who need help. IMO the more people recognize that we are all in society together and that individual problems affect the entire community the more they are likely to vote for progressive candidates and ideas.

She is hardly the only mentally disturbed person in the world and I am sure there are plenty 'on our side of the isle'. All of them need help.

8. This goes beyond simple disturbance
She maliciously created a damaging and potentially dangerous situation. Even her description of the attacker is somewhat reminiscent of Obama's physical proportions. A cry for attention would be one thing, but deliberately stoking racial hatred with a bigoted and gruesome story for political gain is abominable. Then she kept going by adding allegations of sexual abuse. I have no sympathy for her.
