1. Me neither
I hope she has some time in jail to think about what she did. And what her intentions were. Hopefully she will come out a changed person.

3. I don't either. It's not like she wasn't aware that she was lying.

5. She is young. People make mistakes.
The question will be whether or not she learns from this very serious mistake and comes away from it a better person. All that personal anger isn't going to make her a better person, that I know.

9. She won't learn anything unless she suffers some serious consequences as a result of her lies.

14. I'm sure she will face consequences
She is being charged with a crime and rightly so. In my experience however, I have seen many instances, including in my own life, where I learned from a mistake without the necessity of "serious consequences". Maybe you haven't, but that has been my experience. We shouldn't let our anger and disgust at her actions turn us into something angry and disgusting.

7. I do.
I feel sorry for her.
She clearly has some major issues.
Doesn't mean I'm not angry at her too, I can be angry and have pity at the same time.

She needs to spend a year or two in jail, followed by a couple of years in a mental health facility.
Then parole and several years of monitoring and counseling.
Once she understands what she did was wrong, maybe she will then be ready to join us again in polite society.

Isn't the possibility for redemption a liberal attitude?

10. Of course she had to say it was a black man
and she said she was sexually assaulted to according to an MSNBC article I just read. I think she should spend a bit of time behind bars for this crap.

13. She thought through this. Her Twitter posts prove it.
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 01:37 PM by GloriaSmith
She posted online that she was looking for a bank. She then posted that she as on the "bad" side of town. She carved her own cheek. She applied the makeup. She created a half-ass story about being attacked. She lied to friends. She lied to the police. She lied to the VP candidate she wants to win. She made up the mugger/sadist character and decided he should look like Barack Obama. The next day, she turned this fictional man into a someone who also sexually assaulted her.

Do I think she needs help? Yes. Do I feel sorry for her? No.

There are republicans who idolize idiots like Karl Rove even though he was caught lying and cheating during his Young Republican days. Look where it got him: in the White House. When people like Rove are rewarded in society, then you can bet on others doing it and taking it to extremes.
