"she has previous history of mental issues" - MSNBC report...
She now claims to still have no explanation for the B or the bruises, and her friend also didnt believe her story.

She's really... messed in the head.

MSNBC now asking how this story got out if the Police suspected it from the start, and the local news person there at WPXI said "somebody leaked it to Drudge."

2. I think I had her pegged with a borderline disorder
like those you hear of that like to disfigure themselves. I'm a nurse but not a psych nurse. However, I've run into a few of them in my 14 years. She reminds of that type of personality disorder that I've been taught of in nursing school. (I'm a hospital medical floor nurse and they come through every so often)

3. how so, exactly?
there's no doubt now that this girl is disturbed.

the fact that her story/memory keeps changing... is really sad to me.

i think she needs to be punished, but she also clearly needs some help for whatever is going on.

I've heard some people refer to those with that particular personality disorder as "bunny-boilers".

She definitely needs serious professional help...

Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 01:52 PM by ErinBerin84
(who was asking why the media was reporting this when there were clearly problems with the story from the start) knows that MSNBC reported this as breaking news yesterday with NO details, really made it seem like it was an Obama supporter's doing.

McCain/Palin should auction off her RNC threads and donate the money to a mental health awareness charity (even if this girl doesn't prove to have diagnosed mental problems).

35. Well, maybe once we have national health care, including mental health care,
crazies like her can get the help they need. BEFORE they go ballistic.

I'm counting on Obama for this. If he does nothing else, except,of course, getting US out of Iraq and ending American imperialism once and for all, he will go down in history as a successful President.

No big mysterious mental illness. Gal has a drinking problem. They can start early.

She wanted to help out McPanic and Failin and fell in line with their campaign direction to stir up hatred. She did her bit.

She's made false accusations before, but the one I heard of about having her signs taken by the janitor, was also in support of the campaign style being encouraged by McPanic and Failin.

Give up the booze for a while and let's see.

28. Evilness essentially
Urban riots for the week heading into and during the election would please McCain/GOP/NeoCons/Fundies.

I do not believe the young woman acted alone; this was a campaign plot with plausible deniability eg insanity, Todd a Paul supporter, etc.

I hope it is fully investigated and prosecuted including the paths into the media and connections to the McCain campaign and Young Replublicans.

11. If there is a history of mental illness, I for one, hope she gets the
treatment she needs. Perhaps this will develop into a situation where she can receive said treatment.

This young woman made a fool of herself, nationally no less, and her family has, undoubtably been sent into a situation they most likely feel very uncomfortable in.

I find the whole situation sad. Perhaps she would not have "fallen through the cracks" if we had better mental health care. This shows me another reason why universal health care is so important.

The police did not say that - they are just repeating what she said as her explanation. Her "explanation" is just as bad as her original story. Neither are plausible and full of holes.

25. She could cry for help
In a way that doesn't involve fanning the flames of racism, filing false police reports, etc. If she had, for her imaginary attacker, chosen someone other than a 6'4" black guy, it would be much easier for me to pity her. She's also not a little girl. She knew what she was doing was wrong; an eight year old could tell you that it was wrong.

Most men who beat their wives suffer from low self-esteem and did not learn adequate coping mechanisms as children. It doesn't mean I feel sorry for them.

19. Yeah, the one who thinks the best fun a girl could have is lying.
Do you see what she could be referring to? It's lies like these, to why some are sitting in prison for life, and some even on death role for crimes they didn't commit.

If you think she is going to be played with by some news pundits to her mental state, you just better do some real research on the justice system. The courts will determine her mental state, and not the news.

24. After a little thought....... If this chica didn't have some sort of mental disorder before this
than she certainly has one now since her ass got cold cocked busted.

Seriously, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we found out she fell under the puke influence much the same way some fall under the trance of whack job Christian fanaticism or even a pimp entraps fresh game to use and abuse at will.

If something was lacking in her life in any way, then the huge ego boost these nutjob repubs gave her was enough to push her over and out of rational thought.

I don't know anything about her history. I wonder how long she's been a GOP recruit?

30. There's a rumor that Ms. Todd lied at some point about having cancer & even wore a wig
pretending she lost her hair because of chemo.

If this is true, then she does have a history of outrageous lies to try to get attention & sympathy. Truly mentally ill.

The problem with her latest lie was it had the potential to severely hurt a lot of people, not just herself.

No sympathy from me.

31. if she truly has a history of mental health problems...
Then it highlights the dignity of the Obama campaign and the disgrace of the Mccain campaign, since they basically not only exploited this poor girl... but helped fuel this disgraceful story into the media frenzy it became.

I would point out that SHE is the one who said she has mental problems. It may not be true.

I suspect it is true, and even if i can feel sorry for her on that basic human weakness... it doesn't take away from the responsibility she has for her actions. What she did was wrong and there is no way i can be convinced she was so troubled that she was unable to determine right from wrong.

She can talk to a therapist in jail...

48. She didn't have to lie.
"Mental health issues" are as common as the common cold. Nowadays, the term covers everything from well-validated, clearly biologically-based illnesses like schizophrenia to a nasty personality. How many people here at DU have "mental health issues"? That does not mean that you would excuse behavior like this on their part.

She is lying about the amnesia. The only psychiatric disorders that contain amnesia as a symptom are the highly questionable ones.
