The ladies who represented the Pittsburgh police department (Diane Richard and Asst. Chief Maurita Bryant) looked like they were seriously annoyed with Todd's story. It is amazing to me that this young woman thought that she would get away with this.

Also, she would have just had a misdemeanor charge and gone home but she told them she has a history of mental illness and thinks she must have done that to herself so they're holding her in jail for a couple days for observation since they think she may harm herself. Sorry, but I think that's hilarious because I'm pretty certain she said that to try to get sympathy and have them take it easy on her. The act was obviously thought out imho.

With this crash and burn of a racist republican liar who obviously meant to destroy the Obama campaign it will give other racists pause before they get so cocky. This might even damp down some of the more racist remarks and innuendos that the McCain campaign has been trying to whip into a frenzy. Ashley Todd isn't the only one falling flat on her face in this because she is now inextricably associated with both McCain and Palin. They have Ashley egg all over their faces.

58. I think that everyone is getting the message loud and clear.
The problem with whipping people into a racist frenzy is that they feel that much more foolish when they find out that they were fooled. Everybody harboring racist thoughts is going to remember this the next time McCain's campaign dog whistles at them.

The McCain camp made a lot of their own base embarrassed and angry by pushing this stunt.

She brought the whole thing on herself... she is completely to blame. I am glad that she is getting publicly humiliated because it serves as a harsh and rude warning to anyone else who might be tempted to perpetrate a similar fiasco. I thank God that her actions have not caused the tragedy that, in another time and place, they might have. That said, there is still room in my heart to feel pity for this pathetic figure who has made herself ridiculous and possibly ruined her life.... all for politicians and a party who could not possibly care less about her.

C'mon, let's be adults here... our hearts and feelings don't have to be black and white. We can be intelligent enough and mature enough to extend compassion even to those who are our "enemies."

I would be a lot more inclined to call this an act of attention-seeking mental illness if she had actually sliced her face open. She didn't. She was careful not to do that. She seemed to have planned this (however poorly) which also doesn't indicate mental illness, but it does indicate stupidity. This was politically, racially motivated. I agree she needs counseling, but that is secondary to the very intentional, horrific crime she attempted to perpetrate. I'm sorry, I'll probably get some flack for this, but I'm going to post this anyway... (cringe).

there wasn't even any blood. I seriously doubt there will be any scars.
I don't see a need to wish for that. What I hope is that a black inmate
or patient shows her some compassion in prison/mental hospital and shows
her the error of her ways. Some bigots do end up being reformed. I don't
expect that in her case, but it could happen.

And when you consider that the person doing this supports candidates who harp about how awful it is to pay taxes, that makes it hypocrisy.
