FRIDAY
10/24/2008

3:34 p.m.: Gard outraised Kagen by more than 2-to-1 in latest report

Republican John Gard, of Suamico, outraised U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, $135,357 to $58,864 in the period from Oct. 1 through Oct. 15, according to reports filed Thursday with the Federal Elections Commission.

Gard's strong showing pushed the former speaker of the state Assembly into an advantage over the incumbent in cash on hand, with $486,918 compared to Kagen's $193,270.

But Gard was outspent in the period by a more than two-to-one margin, with Kagen spending $535,458 to Gard's $256,151.

Kagen's camp today filed a notice of late contributions received totaling $8,500. The contributions received: $1,000 from Robert Soros; $1,000 from Deep Blue; $2,000 from Ellison for Congress; $1,000 from the John Spratt for Congress Committee; $1,000 from Kaptur for Congress; and $2,500 from Solidarity PAC.
