World map from Maddow last night, anyone have it?
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 06:30 AM by applexcore
Anyone with a link to the map or even a video of it? Thanks in advance.

Edit: It was the map showing all the countries who are pulling for Obama. Sorry about that.

3. I think blue bars are very pretty!
Seriously, that's quite a fascinating site.

Anyone have an idea why Venezuela has the size of the red that they do?

5. Maybe
because the right wingers have got the best access to computers. There are only 607 votes cast in total for Venezuala. compared with UK @ 19404 for example.

13. McCain raised Venezuela to a 2nd-world country by declaring they're part of the Middle East...

If you recall, he placed it next to the Red Sea while talking about foreign oil dependence. They probably liked that.

Really, if I had to guess, there might be two factors in that vote.

First, name recognition. McCain loves to talk about how much he travels. He's been around long enough to travel south of the border a fair amount. He even went there while campaigning in the Primaries, and I've never heard a very good explanation about why. But he showed up just as hostages got released, and publicity is a big part of getting votes. McCain notes that Obama has never gone south of the border. (I guess he figures Puerto Rico doesn't count because it's a US territory.)

Second, I seriously doubt many folks down there are crazy about Chavez and they know McCain hates him and that Obama would potentially negotiate with him. I'm guessing that living there has gotten worse since the oil industry was nationalized and they're hoping for someone to oust him... They figure McCain is much more likely to make Venezuela the new Iraq.

Those are guesses, though.

4. Thanks for the link.
The World is Blue except for the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia(?)

with 87.7% of the votes for McTito.

Outside the U.S the 2 countries that voted the most:

Canada 32.673 votes 89.3% for Obama

Portugal 31,260 votes 93.1% for Obama

Finland 19,525 votes 92.5% for Obama

No trace of Great Britain.

6. That's because Great Britain is just a part of the British Nation
Its full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and you'll find it most often listed as the U.K., just before the U.S.

United Kingdom 19,407 votes, 92.7% for Obama, 7.3% for McCain.

16. I've been knocking that into the heads of my freshmen this week.
I'm a high school English teacher, and this week we started reading about Britain, which is a name used for the UK - I know, confusing. *Great* Britain, on the other hand, is specifically the biggest island in the British Isles, upon which lies most of England, Scotland, and Wales, three of the kingdoms which make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It doesn't get any easier for my poor pupils that we in Norwegian use 'Storbritannia' or Big/Great Britannia to refer to the whole U.K. They're thoroughly frustrated at the end of the class, I can tell you that!

22. Lol,yes I can understand that.
I'm French-Canadian and we mostly say "Angleterre" (England) and "Grande Bretagne" (Great Britain)

so that's why I didn't found what I was looking for in the list.I was very puzzled.:)

23. LOL
Let me see if I can remember anything from my high school French.... Je suis contente de vous assister .... or something like that (I'm afraid it's a decade and a half since high school, and in college, the Italian knocked most of the French right out.) As for England and Great Britain, we have a terrible habit of saying England (it's the same in Norwegian) and meaning the UK. Pisses the Scots off something fierce.

11. It is possible to vote more than once.
So there might just be a few in Macedonia messing with it.

17. I don't know where CNN and the media are standing on the presidential race.
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 03:02 PM by Life Long Dem
Seems like when the attack came out they went from keeping the focus only on the presidential race, so they could win state level seats, and even throw some candy toward Obama supporters.
But then this attack came out and I don't exactly know where they stand now.

But, I'll put my odds on a race that they still feel is competitive, and will fight this to get it close enough to cover up a stolen election.

The McSame animation is from his interview about health insurance companies that cover Viagra and not birth control. He voted on Viagra instead of birth control and he is pretending he doesn't know what the journalist is asking. And if he really doesn't know, then that doesn't say much for women who needed birth control but the insurance companies didn't allow it.

14. Here's the one Rachel was talking about...
I went to it immediately to double check that she said Macedonia (I have an exchange student "sister" from there and she definitely supports Obama - too bad she can't vote in this elections though she's working on getting her green card.)
