PLAY the abortion card!
I have maintained a friendship for 40 years with a gal that i went to Jr Highschool with. She told me that she was undecided (oh, be still, my heart) but she had just heard (from her freeper husband) that Obama won't recite the Pledge of Allegiance. While she went on about
how important the pledge of Allegiance was, i clicked on Snopes.com and read to her that it was NOT true. She said, oh, that's good.

She told me how much she admired Sarah Palin, but we both agreed we'd have an abortion rather than have a downs baby. She is the one
who brought it up. I told her that if McCain is elected, he will appoint supreme court justices which will set us right back to before Roe VS Wade when young girls had to have back alley abortions. She said that was totally unacceptable. The subject changed, but I planted the seeds and didn't offend her.

1. Good grief
The Pledge of Allegiance? Kids stand up reciting something like obedient little robots that they don't even understand. It looks and sounds like something North Korea or the Taliban would require.

This is important? The pledge created one job - and whoever wrote it has long since passed away.

5. The oath you take in the military...
is much more important than the Pledge:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Without the Constitution, the flag is worthless.

2. Have you ever met a child with Downs Syndrome? I'd happily
have one; they are lovely people despite their handicap. In fact, due to their handicap, they are loving and joyful.

3. You still have time
Just delete this.

It isn't helpful at all.

4. What's Wrong With It
Sure as another response points out DS babies may be very loving and wonderful people, but the fact is that their developmental issues DO make them more challenging. They require more attention, often have greater medical expenses and may add additional financial and other challenges to a family. If a family has other young children, the needs of the DS child may overshadow the needs of the others, and that's not necessarily fair to those kids. If a family is low income, it's going to be harder for them to properly take care of the special needs child.

Yes, that's heartless, but it's also pragmatic. Some of us know what we are capable of doing, and what would be too much. I am thankful I was never faced with that awful dilemma.

The truth is that while many of us are squeamish about abortion, most of us don't want Roe Vs Wade to be overturned.
