Presstitute, thy name is Tom Brokaw (irrational Dean hatred)
Well, not really hatred exactly, but did anyone else see Brokaw on last night's Daily Show with Jon Stewart? Stewart started out by asking why Dean gets labeled as "angry" so much in the press, and asked Brokaw to back that label up, if he could.

Blah blah blah. In the end, Brokaw seemed to be implying that Dean was tapping into the frustration of all of those "disconnected" wackos on the internet.

He also (get this) said that Dean appealed to a lot of people, because when he went on to Meet the Press and Russert was all "gotcha" about the number of people in the military, that Dean didn't know the number. Dean's lack of knowledge was endearing to people, according to Brokaw, in the same way that Dim Son's ignorance paints him as "just folks". His contempt for Dean supporters was palpable.

(Of course, Dean actually gave a correct answer to Russert's loaded question on MTP. He said that it depends on how you count it, whether you add reservists, people in the National Guard, etc., and that depending on how you count it it is between 1 and 2 million people. The actual answer is about 1.4 - 1.5 million, depending on how you count it. So his answer was spot on). But there was Tom the Whore Brokaw, repeating the spin that Dean knew nothing about the military. Yuck yuck.

Stewart, of course, did not challenge him on this. (Bob Somerby needs to get the word out a little more).

Then Stewart brought up the secrecy of this administration, and Brokaw went off on some totally cockamamie explanation about how Republican White Houses are run as tight ships, on the corporate model, and Democratic White Houses are chaotic disasters, and so that explains why this White House is able to be so secretive - its organization and loyalty. No mention of why they would WANT or NEED to keep the public business private. Even his explanation was such hooey, that he needed to put his hand in front of his mouth as he spewed the lie, a classic body-language signal that he was lying.

What a dunce. My only pleasure from the interview came in thinking about his discomfort about a year from now when he has to talk about President-elect Howard Dean.

1. it's rational from the standpoint that Dean said we would dismantle
the media conglomerates (a tweety show)...and the crowd loved it.

Of course GE/Faux and others don't like it

18. brokaw is probably a liberal
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 12:22 PM by Bombtrack
most evidence points to that. People on his show like Lisa Meyers aren't, but he has said and done enough things to show that he isn't

"pro-Bush"

Several months to a year back his name was thrown around as a potential vice-presidential candidate for the DEMOCRATS

4. Missed it
But I noticed the same thing elsewhere. The word is out, the knives are drawn, the beast is on the prowl.

5. But, he also said it was the repubs that hate him...
He referred to a (joking) stack of photos with Deans viens bulging that they plan to release during the campaign.

thought they relished the fantastic opportunity and were wildly supporting and committing to his campaign?

8. Sounds like the same tactics they used on Gore....but instead of painting
him as unlikable and stiff and a liar as they (the media) did with Al Gore, they are characterising Dean as angry and bad-tempered....I never saw any proof of Gore being what they said and I haven't seen anything of Dean as the raging bull they are calling him....If he's so angry and bad-tempered all the time, you would think there would be some video to show....I haven't seen any...Has anyone else???

10. On the first segment
The Daily Show (which let's remember is COMEDY, not MTP) had a hilarious piece about the whole Dean Anger thing---it's factesque!. When they showed the graphic of Dean tearing the head off a goat I laughed so hard I almost coughed up a kidney.

11. Ya...I saw that....it was very funny!...
I wish Jon Stewart had an hour show....1/2 hour is not long enough to explore everything as it should or could be!

14. I saw that!
Yeah, it's comedy, but the Daily Show is the only real news worth watching these days; really puts things in perspective. I really like the anger bit -- no we've never seen him blow up, but it's been REPORTED therefore must be fact.

12. Sorry to miss this. Someone needs to explain to Tom that
the current research on "the corporate model" suggests that openness, honesty, and transparency lead to greater org. effectiveness than what he's describing.
