Ballots picked up, then disappear (Miami. Diaz Balart supporters disappearing Dem's votes)

Ballots picked up, then disappear
The disappearance of some absentee ballots,
picked up under unusual circumstances, has
raised some serious questions
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/miami-dade/story/740834.html

The voters, all supporters of Democratic congressional candidate Raul Martinez, said they gave their ballots to the man after he told them he worked for Martinez. But the Martinez campaign said he doesn't work for them.

Juan ''told me not to worry, that they normally collected all the ballots and waited until they had a stack big enough to hand-deliver to the elections department,'' said voter Jesus Hernandez, 73. 'He said, `Don't worry. This is not going to pass through the mail to get lost.' ''

Hernandez said he worries his ballot was stolen or destroyed. He and two other voters told The Miami Herald that the man was dispatched by a woman caller who also said she worked for Martinez. But the phone number cited by the voters traces back to a consultant working for Martinez's rival, Republican congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart.

1. DAMMIT! Why aren't they under lock and key? This is just careless.
And dumb. I can't think of an easier way to steal someone's vote.

3. They haven't gotten to any election official yet
This is about gullible people handing their ballots to a complete stranger who comes to their house, claiming to be from the Martinez Campaign.

5. Duh, thanks. I got rattled, but this is even worse. And everyone
connected to Martinez is pleading ignorance. What a surprise. :grr:

7. Psst...
Raul Martinez is our guy. Easy mistake to make, what with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez, but Raul is a Democrat. Lincoln Diaz-Balart is the slimy Republican POS behind this.

8. OK...
you just convinced me I need a nap, and thanks again. I saw Diaz-Balart's name, and Martinez's, and put 2 and 2 together, and it didn't compute! :silly:

6. That's what I was thinking was going on before being rightfully corrected.
This is worse, if that's possible.

9. What does early voting have to do with it?
Stealing votes is stealing votes.

How is early voting implicated?

12. I was referring to this
"This is not going to pass through the mail to get lost"

I'd rather they try and gank me to my face.

15. Well I would encourage everyone to early vote
It's just good for Dems if we do.

In Los Angeles County (CA), and in many parts of FL, you can verify that your vote has been received.

10. early-absentee voting is emerging as the preferred means of stealing elections
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 01:31 PM by kenny blankenship
Who votes early? Super motivated voters do. Those belonging to the party out of power are the most motivated to vote. By voting absentee-early we identify who we're voting for and give the powers that be an easily targeted and electorally meaningful chunk of votes to "lose" due to "inexplicable mishap" and "innocent mistakes". They don't have to inspect each ballot to know who it's for. They know when it was cast, and that is enough.

Sure, they will trash some McCain-Republican votes by blindly "losing" early-absentee ballots, but they can count on trashing many more Obama-Democratic votes.

16. oh man. So they've got something to work with and hopefully election officials and Dems
will push the issue and investigate their butts off.

How stupid is it that the woman caller would give out that phone number?! OMG.

It's not even November 4th yet and there are so many problems.
