Something happening in Ohio.
Many people were quick to dismiss the Quinnipiac and Battleground double-digit leads for Obama in OH as way too high or not realistic . But if we go back 4 or five weeks, we'd remember that Quinnipiac was the first polling agency to start showing the "shock and awe" numbers for Pennsylvania and other "blue leaning" battlegrounds like Wisconsin,Minnesota or Michigan. Many didn't take those numbers seriously back then, until other pollsters started falling in line one after the other and Muhlenberg started their tracking, which shows Obama with a 10+ in PA lead almost every day.
Someone asked on this site a few days ago: Why isn't Obama leading decisively in Ohio when he's posting double-digit numbers in states with similar demographics like PA?. Well as it now seems the answer to that question is: HE IS in fact leading decisively in Ohio as well.
There are still some pollsters out there who see a McCain lead, a tie or a small Obama lead . But my prediction is that they will ultimately, just like in PA, fall in line sooner or later.

The Quinnipiac polls may be a few points off, but what they usually do is show a clear trend that ends up being picked up by the others.

1. 2004 was pretty close
in OH. With Obama's GOTV and the new registrations I think he has a good chance of beating McCain there. I don't want to be overly optimistic because GOTV means all those new first time voters do have to show up.

5. I do think 2004 was stolen
but you're right it was close, just like PA usually is. But it seems like Obama is surging ahead now , just like in PA .

18. Central Ohio will go to Obama, there is no doubt...
... but do not under estimate the remainder. Southern Ohio will go to McCain, he will do well in the rural areas.

it was settled by mostly German immigrants and they haven't changed much. Good luck with all things progressive!!

but I have a friend who lives in Mason...he gave me the low-down on some of the radio talk, the hate crimes and different things he has seen over the years. Not a very progressive area for sure.

as well as immigrants from Kentucky moving north for jobs in industry (including my Mom's family).

Joke I heard in the 1970s:

Q: "What's the defination of a Daytonian?

A: A (Kentucky native) who ran out of gas on his way to Detroit."

(rimshot, thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week, enjoy the buffet!)

17. you ever hear the one..
you ever hear the one about the man who was born in PA, and over his life moved to WV, KY, IN and Michigan, where he died and went to hell. The change was so gradual he never noticed.

Chuck Todd, who I'm not sure is completely unbiased, said something last week that was so simple and sensical that I slapped my forehead (LOL) when I heard it. He compared Ohio to VA, CO & NC - states that have huge influxes of new blood and technologies, or of immigrants who have settled and become citizens, or students from all across the country moving in and staying once they've graduated. Ohio has none of these, and therefore has a "voter ceiling." We have lost almost all manufacturing jobs, any technological industries have moved to VA, NC, and GA, and our educated young people make a mass exodus out of the state as fast as they can... leaving that aging white conservative population they keep talking about that resists any progress or change that comes along. Without an influx of new youthful blood, OR of jobs and technology, we have zero chance of growing more progressive, so election after election is close and stealable by Republicans, and that's not going to change unless the existing population votes differently - or in larger numbers - which it appears we are doing THIS time.

Just my 2 cents from an Ohioan who daily prays my state can revive itself someday soon.

11. I am a lifelong resident of Ohio
You summed it up perfectly. Ohio has always been behind the curve. Because Ohio had so many manufacturing jobs many people didn't pursue higher education.
