So I went down this morning, Saturday, 10.25.08, to vote absentee in Montgomery County, Maryland. When I got there, there were about 10 people waiting to vote absentee. I gave my information; the officials made me complete a short green form. They DID NOT ask for any ID. I was given a paper ballot. It took me about 10 minutes for the entire process. I took a picture of my ballot, trying to hold back tears.
I was so happy.
As I left, I looked back and the place was packed!! I ran into a woman who just came back from North Carolina. She told me that she went down there to help her mother and other elderly voters get to the polls on a Sunday afternoon! A SUNDAY AFTERNOON!! People can vote on a Sunday!! She told me that there were bus loads of people being bused in to vote on Sunday after church. She helped her 93 year old mother vote with ease! I was just so happy. She was happy. This is such an historic election.
Well, MD folks, your county may allow you to vote early via Absentee Ballot. No one asked me why I was voting Absentee. They just gave me the paper ballot; I voted, and that's that.
For the Marylanders, go here to check and see whether you may vote early via Absentee Ballot:
