Looking a bit at Obama vs McCain advantages in their "safe" states

I used the polling trend numbers from fivethirtyeight.com.

Obama:

CA +21.2 55 EV
CT +21.9 7 EV
DC: +84.9 3 EV
DE: +21.3 3 EV
HI: +45.6 4 EV
IL: +23.8 21 EV
MA: +25.1 12 EV
MD: +29.1 10 EV
NJ: +17.1 15 EV
NY: +28.6 31 EV
RI: +29.3 4 EV
VT: +29.1 3 EV

Total of these gimme states for Obama: 168 - look at how huge the trend percent advantage is.

McCain: (note how many of these are trending into the lower double digits - KY only +12, SC only +12, TX only +12, LA only +10, MS only +8!)

AK: +16.8 3 EV
AL: +21.6 9 EV
ID: +26.8 4 EV
KS: +14.3 6 EV
KY: +12.6 8 EV
NE: +20.1 5 EV
OK: +25.7 7 EV
SC: +12.7 8 EV
TN: +14.7 11 EV
UT: +20.7 5 EV
WY: +22.7 3 EV
TX: +12.3 34 EV
LA: +9.8 9 EV
AR: +10.3 6 EV
SD: +9 3 EV
MS: +8 6 EV

Total of these (gimmes, but nowhere near as comfortable in many cases!) - 127 EV

This leaves where the election will be won.

Obama has reasonable to very good leads in the following:

CO: +7 9 EV
IA: +12.5 7 EV
ME: +14 4 EV
MI: +13.5 17 EV
MN: +10.5 10 EV
NH: +8.4 4 EV
NM: +8.6 5 EV
PA: +11.6 21 EV
VA: +7.2 13 EV
OR: +13.9 7 EV
WI: +11.7 10 EV

So, an additional 107 EV - plus the 168 sure things...275 total (PRESIDENT OBAMA)

some key additional states that are trending very close...

Florida - currently Obama +3.2 27 EV
Ohio: +4.6 20 EV
Nevada: +3.6 5 EV
Missouri: +2.6 11 EV
North Carolina: +1.9 15 EV

It is easy to see how important PA is....and how much of a battle there will be for FL, OH and NC!

Just kind of fun to look at the numbers....
