I sure wish Hunter S. Thompson was still around to cover this election...
...his articles were always so much fun. I really enjoyed his coverage of the Clinton campaign!

1. Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail '72 is the best political book I've ever read.
Funny, and sharp as hell.

He's definitely missed.

9. Ab-So-Lutely
You never hear of politics described in terms of revenge, desperation, fear, jealousy, greed, and the whole range of negative emotions. You never see terms like "the million-pound shithammer" applied to political events.

Some of his insights were unique. His analysis of the Eagleton fiasco was much tougher on Eagleton than anything I saw in the mainstream press. Nobody but Thompson picked up on McGovern's efforts to appeal to Wallace voters.

And no one but him ever had this type of relationship to the campaign. Thompson's handing his press pass to the wandering boohoo helped destroy Muskie's campaign in its early stages.

2. I agree, but as a long time fan of his...
I don't think he could have handled this one.
Palin would have drove him over the edge.
He took care of that at his own choosing.

3. Oh me too
Since last year I've read four of his books, and it's only now that I've started to realize what a great loss his death was. But, I keep forming this image in my mind of HST having one crazy party wherever he is now come Nov. 5th.

6. Can you just imagine the colorful language he could use to describe...
...the mobs of thugs at the McCain/Palin rallies! OMG! Or better yet, him actually interviewing Palin in person...!

7. He would have taken a shotgun and a machete to Mooselini
and I don't necessarily mean that metaphorically. But gods, what prose there would have been!

10. Bush and Tubby were too much to take
Its been soulcrushing for me too but I'm a bit more of an optimist than Thompson and now the tide is turning. No more TLT and Obama en route.
