Time to hit all the Central PA newspaper blogs/forums!!! - Posting at DU wont help in PA
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 07:56 AM by hexola
Folks - time to take our arguments to the local newspaper blogs or commenting systems. A lot of papers have these.

I think this approach makes a much more direct impact on the wobbly PA conservative voters we need.

I've had great success using the following:

1. Sarah Palin is from the most socialist state in the Union (oil payments, windfall profit tax)

2. Sarah Palin is from a liberal, dope smoking state.(legal to possess up to 1 ounce, she said she smoked it)

3. "The Scared Talk Express" (running off the rails)

4. McCain is a terrorist - John McCain/Timothy McVeigh belonged to several of the same organizations(NRA,GOP), same cultural heritage (obviously McCain is a terrorist)

5. Bush is a socialist.(Chavez comments helped here, bailout)

6. "The Bush/McCain Bailout"

I'll add more as I remember - but I've used these few rather effectively in the past few days...

My local rag is(south central)

The forum uses TOPIX commenting system:

Feel free to add a link to your paper!

Good luck!

2. Why do "we" need these so-called "conservative voters"?
I really think we are believing too much of the bullshit hype about PA. Over 1/3rd of the state's population and voters are right here in SE PA and when this corner gets energized, it throws the whole state. There were >300,000 NEW voters registered in the city of Philadelphia alone since the primaries, essentially the population of Pittsburgh.

4. You need to take a drive down RT 30 in South Central...
The signage is 20:1 for McCain...

Plus - I'd like to see a decisive trouncing in the mid-state...

I gotta live here for the next 4 years!

Dont need all the votes we can get...???? Are you serious!!!

Do you want PA to be the next FLA???

7. I've been through there and camped near there.
PA is NOT FL. The governor and SOS are Democrats.

When you look at the statistics, when turnout is low over here, a repuke gets in. When it's high, no such happens. THAT is how Fast Eddie got in for TWO TERMS and ALSO how Bob Casey, Sr. got in for TWO TERMS and how his son got in as a Senator in 2006. The key is getting the turnout in the largest sections.

I'm not saying that I don't welcome votes, but IMHO, spending precious resources on people who will NEVER change or vote Democrat is a waste. If they don't like McKKKlan, then they will stay home and that's fine with me. Getting the turnout from your BASE is the key since there are > 1.2 million MORE registered Democrats in PA than repukes.

So are YOU serious?

10. To be fair to the other poster. Given the choice... phone bank etc.
But if you are going to yell at people on the internet for a few min. I don't think it will hurt to do it under a PA newspaper article on the newspapers site rather than in a DU thread.

12. What does passing on info have to do with "preaching to the choir"?
This site isn't just preaching to the choir but also putting out some facts that seem to get drowned in the concern from people who are apparently NOT in the choir. And you have no idea what I do to support the campaign over here with the Democratic base, so I'm afraid you negate your argument regarding when and why I might post here.

The point of my post was to say that I am seeing too many people hand-wring over PA and believing the crap that the McKKKlan campaign and their RW lunatic-fringe biased M$M have been spewing about the dynamics of this state. No one seems to address the past behavior of this state nor will they address what happened in 2006 - which would have been the best time for repukes to have saved their lost seats by screwing with the machines.

Point being that I disagree with your assertion about trying to convert the hopeless. Get it? Got it. Good.

26. You obviously dont know much about PA politics...
There is a growing divide in the 9th district...going back to the "Pay Raise" issue in 2006...

Locally, the party has split into two factions...

The grass roots are pissed...and are resisting the "establishment" GOP.

The old guard has reinvented themselves as the "Reagan Coalition" - in a weak effort to be the "standard bearer"

Even Bill Shuster is in trouble...trust me, the "Hookers and Blow" thing did NOT play well around here.

Google search:

Pat Fleagle, Todd Rock, Jim Taylor, Reagan Coalition, Rich Alloway

Honestly, I live here - are you suggesting that I worry about someplace else? or just let the local bloggers have their way?

Such a defeatist!!!

14. I don't consider it a very effective way to persuade voters
Door to door canvassing and phone banking would be a better use of your time.

22. " I think this approach makes a much more direct impact on the wobbly PA conservative voters we need
And my point is that actually knocking on their doors and calling them on the phone is far more effective.

Of course that would involve getting dressed and out into the real world. Duh.

24. Perhaps - but I have long, long hair...Im not the man for that task...around here anyway.
But I do agree wholeheartedly - but in lieu of door knocking -

the idea of spreading out to the various local, smaller scale, lower singal/noise ration blogs is sound...IMO.

18. And moreso, physically getting people to the polls.
There are many areas in the 'burbs where the polling places are a mile or more away from the housing clusters. Even where one of my sisters live, there are no sidewalks along what are very hilly major thoroughfares from her street and nearby developments to the polls and she has a number of elderly on her street who WILL BE getting those rides.

Is that what you are saying? You would rather post on newspaper blogs than here, cause this is preaching to the choir?

9. IMO this is one way to counter last min. attacks.
Post accurate refutations quickly right with the articles.

Sure we could just make assumptions about winning. OR we could organize like it is a dead heat to make SURE we win by a vast majority. Personally I am a fan of the second option.

20. I think writing on the local blogs and comment sections
is a good idea...... however
The only people it would sway would be the undecided voters, and they would respond to a more positive comment IMO. I think comments using "true change", "hope", "character"
would make more impact than calling McCain a terrorist, quoting Chavez, or slamming Alaska.

21. I think the hyperbole is uneccesary, but the idea is sound.
Just stick to the facts, point out how McCain/Palin thinks their base is stupid (lies about 'Joe the Plumber' and the tax plan, etc...), and tell the truth about Obama.

That will help the fence-sitters educate themselves.

The ones in the McCain/Palin camp are already too fucking stupid to understand reason, believe me... I talk to them on occasion.
