(T)his man has shown greater promise than any nominee in recent memory. He has a calm demeanor, a keen intellect, remarkable leadership skills and a basketful of commonsense proposals for reversing the Bush disasters and returning the country to its historical position of respected world leader.
This a fortunate land. Given the fix the country is in — the flagging economy, the budget deficit, the cost and at times unavailability of health insurance, the challenges to Social Security and Medicare, the rise of terrorism and the decline of America’s status in the world — in short, given the unprecedented challenges that have been allowed to accumulate over the past eight years, we are fortunate to have a stark choice to make on November 4.
We can decide to continue down the path we have all been on since 2000, with a new leader who may be somewhat more broadminded and rational than his predecessor. Or, better yet, we can opt for a change in direction, with an articulate leader who offers imaginative new alternatives to failed policies at home and a reversal of the United States’ growing isolation on the world stage.
