Snopes.com has a disclaimer on the Michelle Obama lobster tale.
Just got a copy of that stupid lobster story from my stupid RW friend. I sent him a copy of the Snopes disclainer and asked him, "How many friends do you want to lose because of this election?"

BTW - How many friends have Duers lost because of this stupidity? I can name two, right now and it is not over yet?

8. Go to Snopes.com and write in Lobster Story -
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 05:07 PM by Bobbieo
That should work. My dyslexia does not allow me to get into heavy computerese. This sounds more like something Sarah Palin would order from a room service menu. Really stupid story!!!

10. Article that ran in N. Y. Post Oct. 21.
Michelle Obama, room service with lobster, caviar wine etc at Waldorf Astoria. False. She wasn't even at the Waldorf Astoria. The Post in its usual inimitable blanket of neo-con fog had to run a retraction on the 24th.

The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

4. I love the way that consistency doesn't bother these people

"The Obamas are muslim."

"Michele Obama engorged on lobster and caviar at the Waldorf."

Lobster is not halal.

I feel like telling these people to at least check their lies against each other.

11. Some Muslims do eat shellfish
There is a split between Sunnis and Shia Muslims on Shellfish

Both Jews and Muslims do not eat pork, have specific requirements for slaughter, which are quite similar, do not eat birds of prey or insects.

Kashrut, or kosher, also requires separation of meat and milk, something not forbidden by Islam

5. I don't know a bout the lobster story
but I have lost several "friends" over politics. bush caused a lot it. But the big one was because Obama is half black. I couldn't believe that some folks I knew were so racist.

7. On C-SPAN's Washington Journal this morning a caller mentioned that the lobster story was false
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 05:06 PM by parasim
and the dufus editor from Human Events magazine ridiculed her and said, "No, but that story is true!"

then a minute later, Steve Scully says, "Uh, no, they retracted the story, It's not true"...

the Human Excrement editor then goes... "Oh."

As for losing friends, I haven't yet, because my republican friends k now better than to send me that crap. However, I have a rabid right-wing fundy cousin who was sending me a lot of those emails and I after I started sending rebuttals to them, she just quit sending me the emails...

on edit: wouldn't you know it, just as I was writing this reply, I just received two more emails from her... oy vey... her we go again...

9. Surprised so many missed the story.
It hit about the time of the "paint-balled and .22-shot campaign bus" and just before the "B-girl" stories.

Michelle checked into the Waldorf and gobbled lobster and Iranian caviar, doncha' know?

13. I've lost all respect for one of my uncles
He and his wife used to be my favorites. I'm also finding myself short on patience with my mom because she's still undecided even though she voted for Obama in the primary. How can she consider herself a dem (which she firmly believes she is) but have voted for W twice?
