I emailed Obama for America about our votes being stolen, here's what they said
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 06:44 PM by babsbunny
Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting us, and for sharing your concerns about voter protection. We’ve
seen what’s happened in past elections and we have a clear message:

Not This Time.

We’re running the largest election protection operation in American history. We’re not
waiting until Election Day; we’ve already been on the ground for months and we hope
you’ll sign up to join us at the link at bottom.

There are a lot of false rumors out there too, and you can help us fight back. If you
get emails making wild claims about identification requirements or making untrue
statements that people who wear Obama t-shirts into polling places will be arrested, or
any other questionable claims that may discourage Americans from voting, please click
here to get the facts:

http://truth.voteforchange.com/

Then reply to anyone who may have been misled and let them know the truth.

Thousands of volunteers have been working for months to get voters to sign voter
registration forms, and we’re making sure that those registrations are processed.

We’re fighting to make sure eligible voters are not illegally removed from the voter
rolls.

Our professional legal team is up and running across the country, recruiting and training
thousands of volunteer lawyers.

We’re ensuring that counties have printed enough registration forms, and that they’ll
have enough ballots and that the voting machines will be working on Election Day.

We’re taking full advantage of early voting in key states, pushing elections officials in
counties across the country to increase early voting hours to make sure that our
supporters have time to vote, and time to resolve any problems that may arise for
individual voters.

On November 4th, elections officials everywhere will know we’re watching, because the
team we’ve been building for months will be fully deployed.

Click here to get involved - you don’t need to be an attorney to help:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/vpcvol2

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Obama for America

election fraud? (I haven't seen one.) It would be great to have a catalog of those types of activities.

24. Wow, they have Illinois surrounded!
I don't answer my land line phone any more, so I have no idea if I have gotten any here in SI. There is a man here running for state senate (R) and he seems to have wads of cash. I get a different brochure every day from him and lots of calls on my answering machine. He lived in Texas for thirty years and I'm afraid he may have ties with the party there. I grew up with the guy, liked him as a kid, but he still makes my skin crawl now. Will be glad when this thing is over and hope all my elected officials are still Democratic ones. Keeping my fingers crossed.

49. I can tell you that, at this point, it seems that they have chosen to ignore the deadliest
weapon in the Republican arsenal--the voting machines--in favor of trying to counter their effectiveness with half-ass legal challenges that are only partially successful.

It's one thing to fight back against them and another totally different thing to have a plan that will vanquish them.

Right now, I think they're missing the target. But I hope I'm wrong.

i don't know who did it but, i am sure the campaigns fingers were in the pie. it was a successful challenge but no immediate remedy. so i early voted by absentee ballot.

Think of it from this perspective: Obama knows the shit the Republicans are going to throw at him, and I'm sure he's more than familiar with the 2000 and 2004 election discrepancies. There's a week to go. If McCain's people don't know what to expect, and neither do we, how do they plan a counterattack, and worse yet, from what direction?

Just a theory, mind you...:eyes:

Our voting systems are so opaque, corrupt, abstruse and untrustworthy that the most popular candidate in recent memory had to run "the largest election protection operation in American history."

Remember what one of our first jobs must be. Secure the vote, so that no American has to suffer under another *.

48. exit polling as a watchdog
The McCain campaign is focusing on states like Pennsylvania that use only touch screen voting machines with no paper trail. They can flip votes to their hearts content. The only way to combat this is to implement exit polling at all precincts. This is what is done in many other democratic countries around the world. I emailed the Obama campaign in PA to ask if they have an exit poll strategy. I also volunteered to hop on a bus from Michigan to assist in the endeavor. I haven't received an answer.

26. Mine too, especially considering that in PA, the Dem SoS...
decided that paper would be on hand only in cases where ALL the voting machines for some reason or another break down. There's a law suit in process to make sure that the paper is there for cases where 50% of the machines break down. The guy in charge of the lawsuit to alter the SoS's order was on Democracy Now a day or so ago explaining all this.

The vote in PA will be counted almost totally on un-audited electronic voting machines, and apparently the PA SoS doesn't have a clue.

42. In Lancaster, PA, you can get an optical-scan paper ballot even if all machines down ...
... all such ballots are stored by the election workers inside the machine, and then taken out and scanned with the absentee ballots at the end of the night, before the totals are taken off the machine. So, in my county, you can vote exactly as you would if the scanner was working ... your ballot is just scanned at the end of the night instead of in front of you.

Unfortunately, if you made a mistake on your ballot that would normally kick it out of the machine -- double marking your ballot or something -- you wouldn't have a chance to re-do it because you wouldn't be there when it's scanned to know you made a boo-boo. The election worker would push a red button to force the machine to accept it (and count the votes on all other races other than the ones you made the mistake on).

25. If they steal it with faulty (well, very accurate for their real purpose) voting machines again ...
... we'll see the same thing we saw in 2000 and 2004: A lot of lawyers complaining that we've been cheated and McCain in the White House.

I agree that the Obama campaign is incredibly organized. I had to put a sign on my door that I'm for Obama, to stop yet another eager campaign worker from ringing my doorbell! And I put a thank you on the sign.

So, yes, they're awake and aware. But nothing has been done to stop the fraud we've already endured with computerized voting machines. It's so obvious that that should have been taken care of well before the 2004 election that I just do not understand the Congress, the Obama campaign just letting it continue.

in the 3 months since Obama secured the nomination?

Perhaps Democrats in the Congress and in state legislatures can be faulted for not taking strong enough action about voting machines during the years since 2000.

But the Obama campaign?

57. suzie, first they could have made this a prominent national issue. The candidates have their own
bully pulpits to preach from. Had Obama and Biden come out hammering the voting machines, and had the other Democratic candidates and surrogates done the same, this issue would have been front and center two months ago when the teams of lawyers could have really started suing for paper ballots. Probably the suits would have been fruitless UNTIL we started seeing the actual evidence of the unreliability and ease of misuse of these machines. Then the groundwork would have been laid for the courts to say "cease and desist with the machines. Print paper ballots and do hand counts."

Another tack: the Dems could have run ads featuring the prominent Republicans who have stated ON THE RECORD that the machines were used for election theft. Then, as public curiosity mounted there could have been documentaries of those guys explaining exactly how it was done and how IT IS GOING TO BE DONE THE SAME WAY THIS TIME.

What is so infuriating about this is that our Democratic leaders have CHOSEN to ignore the machines as an issue. This gets to the very foundation of a democratic form of government. If the people cannot cast their ballots knowing that they will be properly and honestly accounted our system is totally undermined. So, why in the world would they treat this as if it is some wacko conspiracy theory when there is ample evidence and expert testimony that it is REAL?

Sadly, this gets right back to Democratic incompetence at getting things done when the Republicans put up even tiny roadblocks. We have watched the Republicans stymie Congress and get what they want for years--even when they were in the minority. But we Dems cannot even get things done when we are in the majority. Pitiful.

I hope everybody who thinks Obama is on top of this is correct because if he is not, we are in big trouble.

I said, look, if you have doubts about how well Barack will be able to run this country, just compare the two campaigns and tell me which you think has been run better and more efficiently. She conceded the point.

John McCain has made a number of claims about being ready, about being prepared for anything with no training. How then, does he explain being run over by a political newcomer in the General Election? Or, are Democrats responsible for McCain's faltering campaign as well? :sarcasm:

He or she organizes for power (Saul Alinsky).

They organize so the little guy can stand up to the big guy, so the little guy's vote isn't stolen and democracy actually works.

No wonder the radical right hate the idea and are compelled to ridicule it.

I could still be surprised pleasantly by the campaign dealing with this. I don't see how though.
