Many sat by smugly while the Kerry campaign let the Right Wing thugs
attack Kerry as an unprincipled flip-flopper and showboat without
the kind of immediate vigorous counter-attack that was needed.

Now they are complaining about the media!

It is ridiculous to complain that the media is going with the winner. That is what media does, folks. Especially if that guy is the President.

Dems had lots of chances to put the gun to Bush’s head and pull the trigger. They could have leveraged any of several real news events to push a deadly attack. But some idiot decided that a “smooth-running,” “play nice” campaign was more important than destroying Bush. O’Niel’s book, Richard Clarke, Abu Gharib . . . all great openings to vicious campaign that would have shown Bush to be a f* ing liar and hobbled his attacks on Kerry.

The Dems should have finished Bush during the Dem convention. Blood should have
covered the floor. That is what Political Conventions are for! . Whoever
decided that Dems should “NOT BASH BUSH” failed the entire progressive
movement. That was our only real chance to show George Bush for the
lying, incompetent, mental defective that he is.

Now we have an uphill battle that is bound to look desperate – because we are in a
desperate fix. And media pundit are going to be laughing at us until we can get out
from under.

is not hysteria. Why have you been supporting the
destruction of the Kerry candidacy for the last several months
instead of speaking up.

things have changed real fast in the last day or so. I see it and hear it in the media. The Dem talking heads are finally fighting back quite nicely. I'm temporarily delighted, but fear we must keep the fire burning under them.

16. Of course we can come back. But it does look like Rove made fools of us.
He is running a incompetent slacker who has wrecked the economy
and U.S. international relations against a principled war hero
and dedicated legislator.

Yet he could win.

A few session concocting lies is defeating a lifetime of service.

Lies stand unless the lie is exposed and the liar destroyed.

17. I was one of the angry ones last week...
but things have changed over the weekend. Kerry and Edwards are going on attack, playing offense now.

I am not being snide, I seriously want to know if you feel the least bit positive about the new direction of the campaign? If not, why?

And media pundits? Who cares what they think. They have proven time and time again they do just about everything but think.

It is very hard to get back the momentum and Kerry look a little
shakey in effort to go on the offensive.

19. It is unfortunate that Kerry waited for pressure in the media...
...before he started to seriously fight back.

It makes him look weak that he had to be told to attack. It plays into the "Kerry will let other people tell America what to do" attacks.

Kerry should have gone on the offensive on his own early in the campaign and destroyed Bush.

He didn't, we lost any momentum, and Bush is ahead. We have to win this. Things are getting better, at least for now. We'll see if the Democrats can sustain and focus their attacks for the next two months and pull it out.

No matter what happens, win or lose, the strategy in the early campaign was a failure and a lot of money was wasted that could have been better spent destroying Bush.

We have a right to expect more from Democratic strategists. Maybe someday they will deliver.

will be a Democratic strategist. Someone who can sit on the sidelines with 5% of the information the real Democratic strategists have to work with, yet come up with better campaign ideas. Then we'll be rollin' hard!

Long live the boosters of dissarray and failed "creative" strategies

Don't support your allies
Do another focus group to see if the smears are really that bad.

39. In this case, many people on DU had a better strategy than Kerry's people
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 02:37 AM by Democat
If you can't see that money was wasted and the first part of this campaign should have been handled better, then you are choosing not to see it.

Kerry's people should have hit Bush hard and undermined him from day one. They didn't - they tried to be nice and it was a major mistake.

You seem to worship the campaign, rather than facing the very obvious incompetence we witnessed in the last month.

Kerry can come back, but his strategy for August and before was not as good as it should have been. There were many on DU who could have come up with at least as good of a strategy as the wimps who hijacked the Kerry campaign and let Bush get the momentum in the campaign.

Some of your posts remind me of one of those who kept talking about the "Secret Democratic Plan" right up until the 2002 election was over and we got our asses kicked. The truth will set you free. :)

Who called Kerry a Bush enabler?

You've betrayed many people who trusted you completely. You ought to be ashamed, but I doubt you are. Anything to win, eh? I just wish I could figure out what you people think you are winning. An 8 trillion deficit? War after war after war? Shrinking wages? Serving the investor class? Astronomical housing costs with no housing programs? Privatized education? No social security for low income workers? No more 40 hour work week? What? I just don't get why anybody would go to such lengths for the Republican Party.
