Ok here's my report on the mclame rally from Defiance Ohio this morning.
Went to Obama headquarters first to get signs and meet up with others.Got there a little early so a few of us stood on the street corner with Obama signs for incoming traffic.Which by the way was hilarious. About 4-5 chartered buses kept circling around town each with only 2 or 3 people in them. (nice carbon footprint). Some one(we're not sure who, but we have our suspicions)was dressed in a suit with an Obama mask stood there on the corner with us waving at cars. It was fantastic. Ok, time came to march down to the rally, had a couple snide remarks a couple birds flying, but for the most part pretty cool.So we get a pretty good spot on a "grassy knoll" right beside the secret service caravan. The event starts and no matter what they tell you, there were NOT 5000 people there. My estimate was less than 1000, and most of them were school kids who had to be there. Once mclame came out and started speaking (it was the same old speech) people started to leave. Now was this because it was the same speech or because Joe the plumber wasn't there? We had another group on the other side of the rally with BIG Obama signs straight out from the stage. The police or ss(not sure which) tried to tell them they had to leave, but the owner of the property said they can stay if they want, leave them alone. Cool. But what we did find out later was our dem candidate for county prosecutor was there also and spoke up about they had a right to be there etc. Also found out that the 4 houses directly across from the rally were dems and had Obama yard signs they made them take them down. Our candidate said he is going to check into that one, because if he (mc lame) was dumb enough to have his rally there that was his problem.

We know there were a lot of school kids there because we saw the buses coming in from out lying school districts, at least five different districts by my count.

Also I have to say that the local police were really cool, no problems. Anytime slurs were thrown at us, they were right there with a dog. They never got to even say another word. We just smiled and waved.

So all in all I'd say Obama supporters did a good job representing their candidate, progress was made. Some people came out of the rally and asked for Obama stickers. Many new volunteers signed up and lots were instructed on where and how to vote early! GOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Yep... kidnapped seat-fillers...
Hysterical! More than 2/3rds of McCain's "crowd" of 6000 were bused in students

4. I remember Bush in Richfield a few years back ...
one "family values mommy" (who gave me the finger right in front of her kids, some family values) went on TV and said that she didn't believe that the people who came to protest were "from Richfield" ...

conveniently ignoring the fact that there would have been no way to fill up that crowd of Bush-fellaters with just the people who worked at the place ...

7. Local radio was telling people to park at the mall and the K-mart
on the outskirts of town to catch one of the buses downtown.

3. Great job
but this "Also found out that the 4 houses directly across from the rally were dems and had Obama yard signs they made them take them down" is total bs. If it was my house I would have flatly refused.

10. How did you count the crowd?
I was at a campaign rally a few weeks ago, took a wild guess at 300, then decided to attempt a proper count. With everybody shifting around this was pretty much impossible, so I counted 10 people in a row, figured out the floor space they were taking up, then went to 10 columes. That gave me a visual image of 100 people. Then I visualized that for the rest of the hall. I ended up with about 1000 people give or take 50 - over three times my original estimate.

13. We were standing not far from where they were going in,and granted we couldn't see the
kids side were they had the school kids, but the actual people that were there could it easily on a baseball diamond. We know the area and 6000 people would not fit. It was a small area.

14. One thing I did forget to mention above was after everyone was in and
they were pulling gates and stuff down, I saw a couple American flags lying on the ground in the middle of the street, behind the barricade. I went over to take a picture and got scowled at(I mean dagger throwing looks). Then they were picked up quickly. I do have pics will post as soon as I figure out how.
