Went to Obama headquarters first to get signs and meet up with others.Got there a little early so a few of us stood on the street corner with Obama signs for incoming traffic.Which by the way was hilarious. About 4-5 chartered buses kept circling around town each with only 2 or 3 people in them. (nice carbon footprint). Some one(we're not sure who, but we have our suspicions)was dressed in a suit with an Obama mask stood there on the corner with us waving at cars. It was fantastic. Ok, time came to march down to the rally, had a couple snide remarks a couple birds flying, but for the most part pretty cool.So we get a pretty good spot on a "grassy knoll" right beside the secret service caravan. The event starts and no matter what they tell you, there were NOT 5000 people there. My estimate was less than 1000, and most of them were school kids who had to be there. Once mclame came out and started speaking (it was the same old speech) people started to leave. Now was this because it was the same speech or because Joe the plumber wasn't there? We had another group on the other side of the rally with BIG Obama signs straight out from the stage. The police or ss(not sure which) tried to tell them they had to leave, but the owner of the property said they can stay if they want, leave them alone. Cool. But what we did find out later was our dem candidate for county prosecutor was there also and spoke up about they had a right to be there etc. Also found out that the 4 houses directly across from the rally were dems and had Obama yard signs they made them take them down. Our candidate said he is going to check into that one, because if he (mc lame) was dumb enough to have his rally there that was his problem.
We know there were a lot of school kids there because we saw the buses coming in from out lying school districts, at least five different districts by my count.
Also I have to say that the local police were really cool, no problems. Anytime slurs were thrown at us, they were right there with a dog. They never got to even say another word. We just smiled and waved.
So all in all I'd say Obama supporters did a good job representing their candidate, progress was made. Some people came out of the rally and asked for Obama stickers. Many new volunteers signed up and lots were instructed on where and how to vote early! GOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
