I Thought Last Night's SNL Was The Best SNL I've Seen In Years
The McCain weekend update - the Palin 2012 t-shirt - the Olberman sketch with Ben Afleck.

That was hysterical.

Especially the Olberman special comment and the part at the end when he keeps flipping around to different camera shots and then finally shakes his head and body violently and with rage.

I wasn't on DU last night when it aired, what did you guys think?

1. I thought it was the worst one I had ever seen.
It was so bad, I could not watch more than 30 minutes. I turned off the tv and went to bed before midnight.

3. I flipped the channel during the Olberman skit
I'm not in the mood these days for parodies of liberals.

5. I thought it was hysterical - especially the Olbermann parody...
The opening sketch was, IMO, realization that McCain himself knows he's toast.

Perhaps we're in the minority, but I, too, thought it was great.:hi:

6. I enjoyed what I saw.
The mccain/QVC skit was funnier than I had expected. And yes, it was very anti-palin. (I laughed at the plates commemmorating the 10 town hall meetings. If we weren't ahead I doubt I'd find it funny but, hell, we're going to win this thing)..:applause:

KO and "The View" were also funny though they did seem to run a bit long

9. I dare say KO will love the Olberman skit... For those sensitive
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 09:38 AM by hlthe2b
on that score, it is because KO is damned GOOD that such exaggerated parody works so well. I have to hand it to Ben Affleck--who I have never really liked very much as an actor. He did a very good job and yes, the flipping angle positions was damned funny. Affleck also did a pretty good job imitating Alec Baldwin on the view... Kudos, Ben

And yes, I'm betting KO and BA are friendly and KO will love this.

17. I thought Ben did well. His KO mannersims were great
and he really had Alec Baldwin down well.

I remember thinking he is a lot better actor than I expected.

As I watched it, I pictured Olbermann laughing hysterically. This is a sign that Keith has truly made it.

Last night there were at least 20 threads about it with mixed reviews. I was stunned at McCain in the weekend update. It was hilarious, but was like an early concession speech! My favorite was the "sad Grandpa". :)

12. Well...
...I'm not one to instantly go against something just because they pick on "our side" instead of the other side.

Having said that, I didn't think it was all that funny. What I did really like, though, was how they FINALLY had some new skits (ie, The View, Keith Olbermann). It's about time. They usually just recycle the same stuff. I can't believe they haven't done The View before, it seems so natural, and seems like it would be easy to make fun of.

Around the Olbermann sketch, I switched to something else, which is really unusual for me. I think the premise could have been funny, but it went on for way too long. I also didn't look forward to weekend update, because last week with just Seth was a letdown for me. So, I just turned the channel.

15. I really enjoyed it.
Glad to see Tina Fey again. She worked very well with McCain. Affleck was so over the top with Olbermann it was hysterical. I'm glad Keith had mentioned it previously on his program, or I might have missed it. I'm curious as to what he's going to say about it Monday.

I thought Seth Meyers actually did okay doing Weekend Update solo.

I'm looking forward to Monday night. From http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=20081023nbc01

"In addition, "SNL" will present a two-hour election themed special on the night before Election Day Monday November 3 (9:00 11:00 PM ET) "Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2008." The taped compilation show will highlight the blockbuster current season of political satire as well as showcase the show's 33-year history of lampooning the Oval Office. In addition, there will be new material shot exclusively for the special. "

22. I watch Olberman nightly and . . .
I did not think that whoever wrote the skit does. I saw nothing resembling Olberman in the skit.

The opening QVC skit was OK. I actually thought that Cindy McCain was perfectly cast. Tina was obviously more comfortable with John than Sarah, and John was obviously more comfortable with Tina than Sarah.

The weekend update was really kind of sad. To me, that skit was the concession. Especially the serious part -- "I'm going to keep campaigning just like I have been, blah blah blah."

SNL needs a new head writer. Tina kept the work sharp and focused. Now it just wanders.

The Jewish kid who writes the musical bits is good (but a bit young for me). The heavy metal Giraffes bit was, I thought, the funniest of the night, and the funniest non-Fey bit of the season.

23. I thought it was a fantastic show.
I'm a Keith fan ... and can also laugh at a parody of him. I thought Ben did great. I was laughing so hard I had to run to the bathroom!

LOVED "The View" sketch. Kenan does a fabulous Whoopi! And Ben did a great Baldwin. And Kristen Wiig as Hasselbeck ... HOOT!

Loved the McCain sketch with Tina Fey (and Cindy demo'ing the jewelry ... "Thank you, Cindy!" bwaaahhaaa!)

Loved the High School Musical: Senior Equivalency parody (excellent!)

Loved the German coat sketch.

Haven't even watched my whole tape yet ... looking forward to more.

I'll be glad when this election is over and everyone gets his/her sense of humor back. That was a kick-ass SNL.

Daryl Hammond's impersonation of him and played those clips over and over again. Keith will appreciate this bit no less. He went along with Letterman's "enormous head" comments with humor and grace!

Last week's and week before were equally funny. This campaign has given them some great material and they are using it well. Last night, I didn't fast-forward through any of their sketches like I usually do.

25. Not very funny.
First, McCain doing SNL on the eve of the election was another of his mistakes. I said to my husband, "Look at him; he doesn't want to be President." You lose all dignity; far better if he had waited until he was a former candidate. Obama has been right to stay away.

Doing a parody of himself by playing, basically, his real self--why?

The rest of the show wasn't that good. The Olbermann was a good try but it didn't hit the mark. These guys need to concentrate more on voice than looks or makeup. None of them do so well, save Hammond. The guys going Biden and Obama need to work on voice, too.

I thought the rest of the show was pretty funny as well, definitely better than any recent episode that I can remember. The rant about the precious kitty was hilarious.
