audience at McCain speech (on now 2:45 PM EST) screams in military-like unison

McCain's lying his ass off, just engaged in gay-baiting with a sarcastically enunciated "Barney Frank!" and on and on and on . . .and the audience is just shouting. It sounds like seig heil, seig heil.

And Leiberman standing behind him. What the hell?

1. Yeah, scary crowd. I watched as much as I could.
Definitely not just enthusiastic, but very angry.

6. it's beyond me how something so positive can be made into such a negative
they've turned something that could be beautiful
into unimaginable evil.

3. The crowd sees to cheer or boo everything.
Does McCain have someone leading the crowd, telling them when to cheer or boo? Someone to whip them up? The crowd doesn't sound spontanious to me.

8. I can't stand his Penguin - from - Batman - on - steroids voice either!
The only thing I want to hear him say is "Congratulations, President Obama". It's be a bonus if he'd collapse in a little weepy, dirtied-diaper heap immediately after, but I'll take what I can get.

And a belated WELCOME to DU! :hi:

7. Meh. So people chant in unison. They do that at Obama rallies too.
The only difference is we don't like what the Repubs cheer for. But it might give you some insight into why they find Obama frightening.

10. the whole point is that it was much more militaristic and angry than the rally I attended
I'm reflective enough to understand that we're angry and we shout and we have assholes who steal signs, etc., etc. But we didn't have chants at our rally (or ones I've seen on CSPAN) going that sounded like North Koreans or the Hitler Youth. His rally truly did have a different quality to it. Maybe with a smaller crowd it's easier to sound organized. But it was distinctly different from ours.
