Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 05:46 PM by demdem
Just showed him saying this on NBC in 1992. What a f--cking slap in the face of those who fought that war.

11. They only used the F-102 for a very short time in Vietnam
The plane Bush flew was obsolete during the Vietnam war but there was a group of F-102 pilots at Ben Hoa for a short time. I think it was prior to 1967. When we decided that we were not subject to attack by long range planes from the North the F-102s were sent home. It may have been a guard unit I'm not sure.

5. Knew he would do that - he's trying to make it sound
as if we are being critical of our present Guardsmen which of course, no one is. If our present Guardsmen did what bush did, they would be in jail - I believe some may be.

"If *I* had been in 'Nam, our military would've done better."

Something like that?

Jeezus. That guy needs to be taken down a notch or twelve.

time, I don't think too many Guard units had much of a chance of being called up.

21. Bush also admitted in that 1992 convention interview ...
... that some people made calls on behalf of other people to get them into the Guard. THEN he made the comment about how maybe we'd have done better in Vietnam if the Guard had been called up.

Of course, if the Guard HAD been called up, George would have been hiding in Alabama or at Harvard with a COKE SPOON to his nose.

Buk Buk Buk CHICKENHAWK!

25. Guard/Reserves in Iraq to be connected to Bush
There were Guard Units called up for Vietnam but George W. Bush's Unit was never meant to be sent and if it was where were they going to find George.

Many voters are unfamiliar with the function and duties of the National Guard and the Reserves, and with the changing to a volunteer military, and George W. Bush's war in Iraq, the duties and the functions have changed and they have now become drafted active Regular military, without the benefits.

George W. Bush wouldn't and couldn't function in the National Guard during the Vietnam era and he sure as hell couldn't funtion as a Guard or Reserve trooper now. This is the giant warrior that now leads these noble men and women and his title is Commander in Chief.

22. I was a full time infantry soldier in Vietnam with the
1st Infantry division. I was a draftee but I had a full eight weeks of AIT at Ft. Polk, LA....I don't hardly fucking think so MonkeyNuts.
I also survived a full tour of 13 months. Sorry, but I don't think I would have wanted any weekend warriors on my flank.

Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 06:19 PM by Bandit
I remember during basic there were some NGs but I don't recall a single one at AIT. It was all US and RA no ERs or NGs to my recollection. I also was a US and spent some time in the Nam.

29. Same here. No NG's I can remember.
I don't know if there are any combat NG units. MP's and engineers for sure. I was able to skip my required one year of active reserves as my infantry MOS didn't quite mesh with the local admin unit.

26. Just found this....
CONNIE CHUNG: The problem, though, would be is if, indeed, made several phone calls or some people made phone calls on his behalf to get him into the National Guard. I mean, did that happen to you? Were you...
DUBYA (interrupting): No. I don't think so. But in those days, people were going into the service all different branches. And if you want to go into the National Guard, I guess sometimes people make calls. I don't see anything wrong with, a matter of fact I'm glad he served his country. And serving in the National Guard is serving in the military. They probably should have called the National Guard up in those days. Maybe we'd have done better in Vietnam.
-- Even in 1988, Dubya's dodges the question, while also managing to sneak in a backhanded compliment to the troops that actually fought in Vietnam, Interview with Connie Chung (NBC) at the 1988 Republican convention, New Orleans, Louisiana, Aug. 17, 1988
