3. How does that figure compare with previous NC polls?
Might help to have some context.

4. Voters like that are the reason the NC ballot separates the presidential ballot
from the rest of the races, or at least that seems to be the logical conclusion.

6. The four counties in North Carolina to keep an eye on are:
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 03:47 AM by ...of J.Temperance
If anyone is interested that is.

Wake County (lots of people from other states have moved to Wake County in recent years, it's predominantly a white county some 75% are white, but the new residents are more Cosmopolitan/Metropolitan types, it's become something like Northern Virginia has become ie. ripe for Democratic votes):

"Although Democratic presidential candidates have only won the county in three of the last 12 elections (Kennedy in 1960, Johnson in 1964 and Clinton in 1992), the races have almost always been close, such as in 1980, when Ronald Reagan won by a landslide nationwide, but by a mere 1% in Wake County. Recently, Republican George W. Bush won the county in 2000 with 53% and defeated John Kerry in 2004 by a slim 51% to 49%.

Recently, statewide Democrats have fared well here. In the 1998 Senate Race, Democrat John Edwards won in Wake County, which helped him in his defeat of incumbent Republican Lauch Faircloth. In 2000 Democrat Governor Mike Easley won here with 55% of the vote. In 2004, Easley won again in Wake County by nearly 20%, winning with 59% to 40% for opponent Patrick Ballantine. Democratic candidate for US Senate Erskine Bowles won in Wake County with 52 percent, despite losing statewide to Richard Burr by the same margin. In 2002, however, Republican Elizabeth Dole defeated Bowles with 55% of the vote here, and won by a large margin statewide.

Democratic voters are mainly located in the city of Raleigh, while Republicans are the majority in the rural areas in the north and western parts of the county. The outskirts of Raleigh, and the cities of Cary and Apex are where most of the swing voters are located"

Guilford County (30% African-American and also Kay Hagan is from Guilford County)

Greene County (40% African-American)

Durham County (40% African-American)

We NEED HIGH turnout in these four counties.

On Edit: Dammit colon in wrong place

7. Blacks are only going to make up about 26-28% of the electorate.
Obama's going to need about 33% of the white vote to win. I don't know if he can get it.

9. There are some 800,000 people living in Wake County
75% of them are white, hopefully with a big turnout in Wake County, Senator Obama can garner enough votes there to offset the rural, backward "Deliverance" type un-educated whites who will vote for McNut and McNuttier because....MY GOD THEY'LL BAN ABORTION AND STOP THEM THAR GAYS GETTING EQUAL RIGHTS....AND WHO CARES IF WE CAN'T FEED OUR KIDS AND ARE DIRT POOR, AT LEAST WE'LL HAVE OUR GUNS AND AMMO AND BIBLE BASH OUR KIDS 24/7.

14. from the primaries....
they had a lot of polls that were very pro-Obama and the results didn't pan out that way. They had him in the lead in PA, had him within 5 in Ohio and so on. I've become skeptical of their polls.

16. My impression is that they're a pro-Obama,
inaccurate pollster. Again, it's my impression. There are certain pollsters I value (Rasmussen) and others I disregard (like Zogby, ARG). I had reasons for forming those preferences, but in most cases I forgot the underlying reasons why I formed them.

I'm willing to listen to why you think they're such a great pollster.

Let me look up their accuracy on 538...

10. North Carolina has always had some weird splits
In the 2004 exit poll, 18% of liberals reportedly voted for Bush, and 18% of conservatives voted for Kerry. Hardly an isolated example. I've seen oddities in the state many times. That's why it's difficult to take raw numbers from early voting and assign a margin based on registration percentages or past tendencies. I'm somewhat surprised PPP has it 93-6 for Obama among African Americans in North Carolina. Typically the betrayal is much higher than that. I had it projected at 92-8 this year. If Obama indeed gets 93-6 in North Carolina, it could be enough to put him narrowly over the top.
