7. LOL! I had forgotten that. Cindy nominated for Miss Buffalo Chip at Sturgis was pretty bad too.

5. The choice of Palin may have 'energized" The 25% bush base
but it turned off the more intelligent repubs and most independents. It certainly did NOT have the desired goal of winning over Hillary's supporters.

6. Palin a complete moron...imagine if he had selected Romney, or somebody faintly competent
The selection of Palin has proved disastrous. She is red meat for an insane and increasingly irrelevant base, but anathema to the moderates McCain needed to win the election. What's most comical is that the wingnuts don't even see it. They actually think that Americans like Palin, despite all evidence. That's what will be so sweet about their utter defeat tomorrow. They will have to swallow the complete rejection of Palin and everything she stands for, which is everything THEY stand for.

Honestly, McCain's campaign has been surreal and at times just plain bizarre. His three week obsession with Ayers was really strange.

9. Palin hurt, but when McCain said the fundamentals of economy are strong and then
just days later his bizarre action of using to delay the first debate due to the financial crisis--all of that stuff hurt him.

10. That's true--that "fundamentals" comment cost him big time.

11. it was Palin's interviews
believe it or not the American people were ready to accept Palin until those interviews, but after that the bottom just fell right out. She came off as clueless, it was a stain on McCain's judgment and it came at a time when he was already losing ground. I think you can point to those interviews and say that was the moment the McCain campaign bit the dust.

this is followed pretty closely by the suspending and unsuspending of the campaign.

17. I gotta agree with you and WI_DEM.
From the time he opened his mouth saying "The fundamentals of our economy are strong" and the economic meltdown in the 3 weeks that followed were surreal. That was when his poll numbers took a nose dive.

16. Other: McCain hires on Rove's people as trusted aides.
That's where McCain lost himself. That's where McCain abandoned decency and honor. And it subsequently led to the Palin pick, the obsession with dirty campaigning, etc.
