Recommend this thread if you're going to take the day off for Obama tomorrow
I've asked for two vacation days: Nov 4 to canvas for Obama here in K.C.MO and Nov 5 to stay up for the election returns.

2. I am off but I confess it is my regular day off
I work weekends at a local hotel. I am going in to the nearest office for the afternoon to make phone calls.

If I was set to work though I would ask for it off. I am the political nut at work and the others aren't involved at all. I am just lucky the two I work with voted for Obama. Most I can get from them. The bosses are wacko neo cons.

5. I'm usually off on Tuesdays, but I will be working... as a poll worker!
I'd thought the positions were volunteer, and I'd called last week trying to find out if they needed any help.

They didn't then, but I gave them my number to keep in case someone canceled, and one of the ladies who had been scheduled to work at my precinct had to cancel because her husband was hospitalized.

I may not be specifically working for Obama, but I think I'll be doing some good this way. (Plus, most poll workers are older and not-so-great with computers, so the fact I'm decent with computers might be a big help!)

The question is: how late will my friends and I be up tomorrow night? How much will I drink in an effort to counter-act the adrenilin? Will I get ANY sleep?

11. I'm an election judge
I'll be assembling and setting up the voting machines tonight-- then working tomorrow at my precinct's polling place from 5:30am to at least 8:00pm (depending upon when the last voters leave, when all the audit tapes can be run, and when all the other paper work can be finished up).

A very long day, but a great way to be involved.

When I'm done, I'm coming home for a piece of sweet potato pie to celebrate Obama's big win! :dem: :dem: :dem: K&R!

82. We're taking the day off! Whoopee! We never take a day off weekends
included. Mr. Snappy said he was taking the day off and I didn't believe him...however, he is! Gave his crew the day off too to make certain they vote! We're checking up on them! Although, they're all fired up for Sen.Obama so we should have no worries in our immediate little world.

GO OBAMA!! :woohoo:

83. Well, hubby's employer already gives
them the entire day off, which they'll be paid for if they show that they've voted. I haven't yet found a job here in tinyruraltown, so I don't have to worry about it. We're just gonna walk down to the post office and check our mail, then go next door and vote!!!

Quite a change from four years ago, when I was still living in Ohio in an urban area, and single. Little did I know that not even a year later I'd be moving to South Dakota and things would change forever. My only regret about that is not being able to vote in Ohio today. South Dakota is already reliably in the bag for McSame/Failin', I don't think anything would ever change that. Ohio, otoh, is really in play, will be hard fought to the end and every single vote counts. My family and friends there say it's so divided that it could go either way and they don't know yet at this point which way that'll be.

86. I work at home.
I'm a stay at home dad with twins, so I don't get a 'day off.' Wifey and I have made preparations for the returns extravaganza tonight. Chicago pizza for dinner, blue corn chips with guacamole and star shaped sugar cookies frosted blue for snacks and dessert, bottle of champagne chilling, and bottle of whiskey just in case. Other than the occasional kids show for the boys, I plan on monitoring the festivities all day long on the tv. During kids shows, I will most likely be on DU on my iPhone, and during naptime I will certainly be on my laptop getting the latest updates.

I need to be here with my friends to celebrate. We've all made a pact that no matter what time we get to bed, we're coming to the office to celebrate.

99. I took the day off when Bush invaded Iraq.
I also stopped cutting my hair until the day Obama is elected and the Corrupt Republican Fascist are swept from office. I am one of the many people that left the workforce in protest of how they were spending my taxes.

Funny thing is, when you don't make much money, you really don't get any benefit from any Tax cut. Tax cuts benefit those that have meaningful taxable income.

Even when you do make enough taxable income, any smart idiot can reduce those taxes to an insignificant amount by using a smart tax perparer that is well versed with the overly complicated tax laws.

I can't believe that my Vacation lasted almost 5 long years, but retaining ones ethics is not cheap, nor easy to do.

The minute Obama is inagurated, I will leave the ranks of ex-professionals once again and do my part for the US. I'm looking forward to it.

100. I am on vacation in Guatemala and..
will be taking off the rest of the week. I voted early and am now going to be attending an election watch party in Antigua, Guatemala at a local Gringo bar, the "Mono Loco". It should be interesting seeing the election from a foreign country this time.

Sure wish the Dems were more organized. My list is crap. This stupid VAN computer system in Florida sucks, or else the changes that are being entered into the database are not sticking. So many of the tel nos are no longer good, or people don't live there anymore, etc.

Disappointing.... but doing what I can.
