OKLAHOMA voting - requiring ID today, even though it is NOT required by law. WTF?

Spoke with my husband, who has already voted, and he said they were checking ID at the polling place - driver's license or photo ID, or a utility bill, and there were signs on the wall saying ID was required, otherwise you would be issued a provisional ballot.

Something stinks here. In the past, all we've ever had to do is just sign by our names in the precinct book. WTF? A quick google indicates that the Repugs here TRIED to get a voter ID law passed this past spring, but it failed in the Senate in May. Looks they're trying to do an end-run-around here and put this requirements into efect ***even though the law never passed***. This sucks, big time.

WHat has been the experience of other Okies today?? I'm certain that in the primary all I did was sign the book.

(no time to do more research right now - I'm going to pick up my 18 year old from class, then we're going to vote together.

***ON EDIT*** - husband's reading comprehension was not as good as it could have been this morning - see below.

I just gave them my name, signed the book, and voted like usual.

5. Have you reported it to the Obama campaign?
They have lawyers and more lawyers. I don't know their hotline number, but I'm sure they have one.

7. Just got back - hubby was mistaken. There were some signs on the wall that said "ID required"
in big letters at the top. Reading the fine print, however, (which apparently hubby didn't do very well) showed that ID was required only for first-time voters who registered by mail and didn't include a photocopy of their license or other ID -- which is exactly what the law states. My first-time voter daughter showed her license (we misplaced her voter reg. card), even though I'm not sure she would have had to. I just signed the book, as usual.

Sorry about the confusion. Hubby is a smart guy, but not obsessed about politics the way I am. He says he's always shown ID at the polling place - I'm not sure why the heck he would do this, because it's not necessary.

At any rate, it was exciting to be with my daughter when she voted for the first time, and in such a crucial election. And I felt a little thrill run through me as I marked the arrow next to Obama and Biden. WOOT!!

8. K&R for the voter suppression file. Report the incident so it can be added
to the long list of the Republican attempts to slow down the voting process to depress Democratic vote counts.

Add it to the stack of GOP attempts to subvert the voting process.
