According to the daily mail, BBC has 175 reporters in US covering the election!
If only our own US news organizations would be this dedicated!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1082848/Does-BBC-really-need-team-175-cover-U-S-presidential-election.html

At a time when the BBC is trying to make extensive savings across the corporation and cutting scores of jobs, it has still seen fit to have an astonishing 175 staff covering the U.S. election.

It has sent out an extra 125 on top of the 50 who are based there full time.

Presenters David Dimbleby, Huw Edwards, Jeremy Vine and John Simpson are among those who have been flown across the Atlantic.

As well as the technical cost of the operation, licence fee payers will be footing the bill for travel costs, accommodation and expenses which is certain to run into hundreds of thousands.

The race factor: Will voters turn away from Obama at the last minute?

By contrast, ITV News is understood to be sending between 15 and 20 staff, and 24-hour Sky News is sending around 40. The scale of the BBC's presence has added to the perception that the bloated broadcaster is out of control.

There are individual teams working for Radio Five Live, News 24, the World Service, BBC America, Radio 4's Today programme and Newsnight. Four staff from BBC Scotland have also been drafted in to give their own perspective.

The cost comes at a time of concern over the amount lavished on 'fat cat' controllers at the corporation. It has been revealed that the BBC spends £14.3million a year on the salaries of 50 managers, half of whom are paid more than Gordon Brown.

This summer, the corporation sent 437 employees to China for the Beijing Olympics - more than the total of British competitors.

A BBC spokesman said of its U.S. election coverage: 'BBC News is sending 125 people including technical staff to report for a wide range of outputs and audiences on this globally important story.

'Almost all staff will be working for more than one area of output and the deployment has been heavily coordinated and scrutinised to ensure efficiency and value for money.'

That's why I've been reading British media for the last 5 years.

5. I just checked on BBC TV news
and you seem to have most of our good reporters over there including our war correspondents !

I also caught the bit which mentioned that your exit polls are currently showing over 90% to be against the bailout.

6. Yes, there's A LOT of antipathy
about the bailout at the individual level. *

Esp if homeowners who got duped into these bad mortgages they can't afford don't get some relief also.

*I'm out of that fight because I own my home.

7. Was just saying
about The Mail. It's a Private Eye joke which goes back 30 years or so.

In the same way The Guardian is know as The Grauniad due to its propensity to misspell.:) :hi:
