This afternoon, Michelle Obama spoke by phone with First Lady Laura Bush, and discussed the honor and privilege of the role of First Lady. Mrs. Bush offered her congratulations on the election. In addition to wishing her a happy birthday, Mrs. Obama thanked her for the grace and strength she's demonstrated as First Lady, and expressed appreciation for her guidance in the coming months as the Obama family begins their transition. Mrs. Bush extended an invitation for Mrs. Obama and her two daughters to visit the White House in the coming weeks. A date for the visit will be set soon.

What a wonderful thought. I hope the Obamas appear often together. They are such a lovely family.

I'm glad the Bush's have been gracious so far. Probably do not want riots. But you know, this is the one thing that could turn the rednecks against Bush once and for all. They can blame him for ushering a "black man" into the Whitehouse. Of course, it was Obama's energy that got him elected by a LANDSLIDE. But, some people think in black/white terms. I don't know if they would blame his failures, or just the snapshot of handing over the keys to this black family. Fortunately, I don't understand them all that well.
