2. Yes it is. I've been checking out for the past hour
Maybe the server is overloaded. It's how I found http://presidentialtransition.gov (which is a website Palin could use to learn about how the government is structured)

Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 03:53 PM by Ioo
I do not want you opening yourself up already... THis is from NASA, but I know it is all over the gov...
1.2.2.4 E-Government Act of 2002.

The E-Gov Act is addressed in this document only as it relates to privacy issues. In this respect, the E-Gov Act reinforces existing statutory privacy provisions and adds new requirements to ensure sufficient protections for the privacy of personal information as agencies implement electronic government.

a. Title III of the E-Gov Act, entitled "Federal Information Security Management Act" (FISMA), provides for development and maintenance of minimum controls required to protect Federal information and information systems. It also authorizes OMB and the NIST, under the U.S. Commerce Department, to define what is meant by "minimum controls required." Briefly, the following are requirements specifically related to PII: (1) Designation of all systems containing PII information to be categorized, at a minimum, as "Moderate," as defined in NIST FIPS 199. All requirements for "Moderate" systems identified within NPR 2810.1, Security of Information Technology, are to be met and will be certified as part of the NASA Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process.

(2) Implementation of specific controls for systems containing PII.

b. Specific new privacy requirements in Section 208 of the E-Gov Act and OMB guidance for implementing them are summarized below and detailed in the following chapters:

(1) PIAs must be conducted and made publicly available for all information technology (IT) systems, including Web sites, which collect and/or maintain IIF on members of the public. The phrase "members of the public," under the E-Gov Act, excludes Government personnel, contractors, and partners. Detailed requirements for conducting PIAs are provided in Chapter 3.

(2) Agencies are prohibited from using persistent tracking technology or "persistent cookies" on public Web sites. Web content managers must seek the approval of the NASA Chief Information Officer (CIO) to use persistent tracking technology under certain circumstances described, along with the approval process, in Chapter 4.

(3) Requirements are prescribed for Web privacy policy placement, clarity, and format, as well as Web privacy policy content regarding public consent to the collection and sharing of information and their rights under privacy laws. These Web-related requirements are elaborated in section 4.2.

But I have one comment. I see Energy and Environment listed on the Change.gov under agenda. Now, I realize that they are often intertwined, but sometimes they are not. I think they should be separate categories. One example is the issue of CAFOs and the problems they cause with water and soil contamination. Before * hijacked the government, this was an issue I was intensely interested and active in trying to change.

31. I think it may be part of the push toward a green policy
I know what you mean though. When I lived in Kansas a big concern was the move toward corporate hog farms and the environmental contamination they caused. Another concern was how they were pushing out smaller family run operations.

32. Incredible. Every DU'er should check it out. Our President-Elect is on the job!
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 01:30 AM by Dem2theMax
We voted for the right person for the job. I can hardly wait for January 20, 2009. :) :) :)

Edited to add -

From the "America Serves" page:

America Serves

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

I LOVE this man!

34. I admit that I'm disappointed
I thought that the news that the President-elect had two websites - chocked full of information - so that the American people can see what they are planning and what they are doing would be more newsworthy. We've just been through 8 years of a secretive administration who went out of their way to keep us in the dark. Now we have leaders who want to keep us informed and no one is paying attention. Instead there were threads about where the Obama girls should go to school, what kind of puppy they should have and a whole host of other things that, well, are nothing more than the type of wild speculation that the media constantly engages in. I'm disappointed.

On the other hand, it is nice to know that there are some other DU'ers who care enough to actually check out and recommend a thread that will directly affect our future. Thank you for checking out this thread and for taking the time, like a few others did, to actually explore the websites. When I found out about them I spent over an hour, with my jaw dropping in absolute delight and wonderment, checking out all the information that was provided. It feels like a new era is dawning.

35. Well, we just need to promote the hell out of it ourselves.
You are right, this should be seen as the turning point towards open govt that is the promise of Obama the candidate, the first promise being fulfilled before even being sworn in!

It is big and deep, a core philosophical shift.
But the media will be what it is, and as always, we must take the reins to whatever extent we can.

Thank you for your part in doing that!

36. I figure in a couple of weeks people will start catching on
Most of don't seem to see things as important unless they see it on TV or get bombarded by it. Obama promised us transparency and he's doing it. He promised us that we would work together and he's providing us the tools. But, apparently, in all the celebrations and self-congratulations, people are already forgetting that the hardest part of our fight to get our country back has just begun.

Frankly, this is one of the coolest things that I've seen since Gore launched Gorenet back in 1999 to accept small donations and to try to bring the grassroots together. That idea took a while to catch on (mostly because a lot of people didn't have computers back in 1999) but when it did, it started a revolution.

In the end Obama and Biden can only do so much. It is up to us to keep up the fight. I'm just grateful that they are giving us that chance. I hope others will catch on eventually. I just hope it doesn't take as long this time.

37. I'm shocked that DU is not paying more attention to this.
I'm already telling family and friends about the web sites. I have a repuke neighbor, sweetest lady in the world, who told me that she is scared, now that Barack Obama has won the presidency. I'm going to direct her to the web sites. I think that alone should take care of her 'fear.'

I'm going to read every single word on www.change.gov
and http://presidentialtransition.gov/

These sites will be on my "must visit" web sites list. I plan on going to them every day. This is a huge resource for all of us, and DU'ers should be as familiar with change.gov as they are with DU. President-Elect Obama is giving us the knowledge - we can use it to educate more people.

39. I was too!
But I took it a step further--I applied for a job so pray, cross your fingers, etc.. Given that I'm already working for the government, knowing the red tape it takes to have a Secretary confirmed and all that jazz I want a change of venue. In my office they're so corrupt and backbiting I'm taking a huge step by applying for another position in this fashion. Besides, after dealing with these inept "officals" for the last 5 years, change is definitely necessary. Wish me well!
