nice commentary by George Wallace's daughter
Four years ago, the young Illinois senator who spoke at the Democratic National Convention mesmerized me. I hoped even then that he would one day be my president.

Today, Barack Obama is hope for a better tomorrow for all Americans. He stands on the shoulders of all those people who have incessantly prayed for a day when "justice will run down like waters and righteousness as a mighty stream" (Amos 5:24).

Perhaps one day, my two sons and I will have the opportunity to meet Barack Obama in person to express our gratitude to him for bringing our family full circle.

And today, the day after the election, I am going to ride to the cemetery so that if asked, I can vouch for the fact that the world is still spinning but my father lies at peace.

2. An amazing article
So well written, so thoughtful, so compassionate, so healing

I was in high school in south Alabama when Wallace lost the governor's race to Patterson who, Wallace said, "out-segged" him.

I appreciated the fact that Wallace set up a good community college system in Alabama that benefitted people (black and white) who were the first in their families to attend college

But until I read Wallace's daughter's article, I was still bitter about how Wallace was so successful in appealing to the worst in our natures. I remember being in a crowd where Wallace said that if a pointy headed liberal lay down in front of his car, Wallace would run over him. I felt dirty listening to the roar of approval from the crowd.

Thank God that I could also listen to JFK's speeches that appealed to the best in our natures.

Now after reading the article by Wallace's daughter, some of the bitterness I felt at her father is disappearing.
