How many of us receive emails from the Kerry campaign or the DNC, usually the result of either donating money or getting on their websites? I suggest that we reply to every one with messages that we want them to hear. To that end, I have just sent Mary Beth Cahill this reply to their message about hosting debate parties: *** Dear Mary Beth, (after all, she started hers with "Dear Tom")
This election cycle, I have donated more money and done more than at any other time in my 30+ years of involvement in politics. However, until I see a willingness on the part of the Kerry campaign to really fight back against the Bush* forces, my participation from this point on will be limited to voting. Unless the campaign, the DNC, and every Democratic representative who appears in any public forum or media get their act together and attack the republicans, we will lose in November. In an attempt to curry favor with the undecided middle-of-the-road voters by moderating your tone and message, you have produced a lot of frustration in those who represent the core of the Democratic party. With turnout being a key to success, if you continue to turn off those of us who have been and voted Dem all along, you will fail and we all will lose. Instead of trying to win that middle 5%, try to generate enthusiasm in the millions of registered Democrats who do not vote and get them to the polls. A first step has to be to get Democrats appearing in those public forums to be more aggressive in making their points. State the message and keep at it. Do not be intimidated or silenced by the hosts. A second step would be to hold to the demand for three debates and not let Bush* duck any of them. If he will not appear, stage one against an empty chair and get it on tlelvision - even if it means buying airtime. The time for politeness is past. Fight for us. *** If they started to receive this kind of reply, maybe, just maybe, they would listen.
