I know it's against the DU sentiment, but I'm liking the Rahm pick more and more.

1. I thought it was a great pick. Obama's keeping America on its toes.
And it's clear he wants to keep himself on his toes as well.

24. i think it's a great pick, too. Rahm is a "Git 'r done" kind of guy and exactly what's needed.

2. As liberal as I am, I still think Rahm Emmanuel is a terrific choice for Obama's Chief of Staff.
After eight years of bumbling and incompetence, it'll be nice to have people in the White House who know what the hell they're doing, and are very good at doing it. I think President-elect Obama will cover himself with glory by his choices to staff his administration. Rahm Emmanuel is going to make things happen. Good things...

7. The combination of Emmanuel and Biden
is a powerful team to work Congress to get Obama's agenda through.

12. I agree ...

Rahm is a son of a bitch skull crusher ... who also knows how to take orders.

That's precisely what is needed in that position.

28. Obviously, I wasn't there ...

But it's a story that made Time Magazine, and he hasn't refuted it as far as I know. Of course, there is value in your opponents *thinking* you'd send them a dead fish if they piss you off enough, and he's certainly the type of personality who would not be bothered at all by people believing that.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he did.

It was a pollster, according to my understanding.

And Josh Lyman's character is based on Rahm.

20. I find this a little convenient
No one said that while the show was running.

Santos' character was a lot like Henry Cisneros before he lied about his mistress.

10. Oh, I like him ...

I think he's an excellent choice for the position he's taking.

I (and I think others based on private conversations) am pretty much staying out of these threads second-guessing what Obama's doing right now while choosing his team. If he did something galactically stupid like hire Wolfowitz or someone of that ilk, I'd have a few words, but that's not the case here.

11. I think Rahm is perfect for the job.

He is the iron fist, in the Obama's velvet glove. Hill politics is no tea party. It's as rough and tumble as anything we saw on the campaign trail -- and more.

I think Rahm is a great pick--we need someone to kick ass and take names, lay down the law for once and for all.

17. Rahm once said when he is pissed off, there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth
and for those without teeth, teeth will be provided.

Yeah, I can live with that guy working for us.

19. I have it bad for West Wing - have the first four seasons on cd
And yes, Rahm is Josh. I always liked Josh. He was loyal and a bulldog for his President. I think we'll see the same characteristics in Rahm. Excellent choice.

I do miss the pre-chief of staff, CJ. She was great as press secretary.

22. I don't know if Josh had the temperament for a CoS toward the end,
Too quick to fly off the handle. I found his character to become much more darker by the end of Season 6 and definitely into Season 7.

As for real life, you need someone in that position to get things done. The point has been that Bill Clinton's appointment of Mack McLarty, a D.C. "outsider," basically wasted Clinton's first year in office. I think Emanuel is the man for it.

21. Rahm was a GREAT choice
Any new president is hit with a ton of bricks his first day on the job. For President Obama, that will be doubly true with two wars, an economic meltdown, energy emergencies, and environmental concerns. He'll have to hit the ground running and won't have time to learn where the bathrooms are, so to speak. A Chief of Staff who knows DC and knows how to get things done is critical. Rahm is perfect.

Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 04:28 PM by galaxy21
You've got the first black president, his gorgeous wife, his loudmouth vp, his slightly scary chief of staff, a press corps that can''t wait to tear him down, the neocons that refuse to leave, and the dumbass ex president who keeps hanging around to give unwanted advice. Not to mention the opposition is lead by a moose hunting, idiotic, mother of five from Alaska who doesn't know Africa is a continent.

27. The whole West Wing plot is coming to pass ... Josh would have been Santos' chief of staff...
... the writers of West Wing spoke with David Axelrod about Barack Obama in 2005-6 when the Santos episodes were being written, so Santos clearly had some Barack bio in him ... and Josh was Santos' campaign mgr. and would have been chief of staff. So if Josh:Rahm as Santos:Barack ...
