November 4, 2008 I chose hope and voted for Barack Obama
and Joe Biden.

I have been listening to the "Yes we can: voices of a grassroots movement" CD. There are many good songs but there is this one song that resonates with me very much. It is called "Love and Hope" by Ozomatli.

This is the chorus:

"Just raise your head up and stand up no fear in your eyes tell me love and hope never die. So raise your head up and stand up no reason to cry 'cuz your heart and soul will survive."

For almost 8 years we have had fear and hate shoved in our faces by BushCo and I had very little hope that we would find a way to change the course for America. Now, after November 4, 2008 I do have hope and lately I am more in touch with the fact that I survived the GWB years...what an accomplishment! I look forward to working for change in the future.

The CD is great, it has portions of speeches that President Elect Obama gave while campaigning. The Love and Hope song has Obama saying something to the effect of "hope is not blind optimism... in the unlikely story that is America there is nothing false about hope..."

From the very first Obama-Biden press conference last Friday I felt I could breathe for the first time in years. It is wonderful to have competence back in the Executive branch. I know that whatever happens and considering the mess the USA is in after BushCo I can trust Obama-Biden and their team to protect and defend the United States Constitution and to restore it, to follow the rule of law, to make wise choices, to serve ALL of the citizens in America; leading and inspiring us in this work.

This brings me hope. I remember in 2004 the Kerry-Edwards campaign used the slogans "help is on the way" and "hope is on the way." I was crushed when 2004 was stolen - and without a fight too. Now, it seems to me those slogans were true, just delayed four years more than I had expected. After watching Barack Obama's speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention my spouse said to me, "that man is going to be President one day." I agreed. I am sure other people thought so too but I had no idea it would be so soon. How thrilling it is! How historical it is!

Barack Obama and Joe Biden, change we believed in, change we need.

In the dark days of BushCo DU was my refuge and during various difficult times I started a thread that was titled, "You shall not pass." It referred to a scene from the Lord of the Rings. When Gandalf the Grey was in the cave on the bridge being chased by the fire breathing dragon. As I recall, the bridge was collapsing beneath him and Gandalf turned to face the dragon, with every ounce of his being and his entire will he stood with his staff and said to the dragon, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS." With Gandalf's sheer force of will the dragon was stopped. Of course, not without a fight but Gandalf emerged victorious and forever changed.

There were times during the rule of BushCo's criminal cabal that all I could do was repeat that phrase, "You shall not pass." Today I feel it, I feel it is real now. Finally.

Peace and Hope to you DU.

5. My vote for Obama was my (I hope) final "Fuck You!" to
the yahoos who physially assaulted (and made death threats to) me and others in the anti war movement over the past 8 years.

To those who yelled "Traitor!" out the windows of their land yachts

To those who spied and eavesdropped without a warrant

To those who tortured and rendered the innocent

To those who imposed collective punishment on the residents of Fallujah and Najaf

To those . . .

Rant over
