You know, I was in a good mood after the 2006 election but I feel great now
The 2006 election was necessary to put brakes on Bush/Cheney during their last two years in office and it was satisfying that we came through in places like Virginia, Missouri, and Montana. I think it also gave us hope that 2008 would be different than 2000-02-04. However, to win this convincingly with a great candidate like Barack Obama is beyond what I could have imagined. I suppose we should have been more realistic after the 2006 elections and could have foreseen that between Bush vetoes and Republican filibustering in the Senate that not much postive was going to get done. That is exactly what happened. There are things the Dem's should have done better like FISA but they couldn't afford to give the Republicans any issue to use against us. That part worked. Who would have believed that terrorism would hardly be mentioned in the campaign this year. Funny how when our 401Ks have tanked we are not so concerned about some Muslim bogeyman in the desert.

Finally, one thing I really feel good about is the end of Republican pseudoscience. The perversion of science and its policy role by the followers of Bush has been shameful. This didn't even come up in the debates. To Hillary's credit she mentioned it in the final debate with Obama in the primaries. However, there was no disagreement between our candidates on this. They both opposed the politicization of science that has been allowed to go on concerning the issues of global warming, evolution, and the environment. I hope Obama makes the return science without bias in an advisory role one of his top priorities.
