Female members of Obama's cabinet?
Any thoughts on what women might serve major roles in Obama's cabinet?

I'd love to see him choose a female Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State.

What are the names that have been out there? Anyone heard any speculation?

1. Governors Janet Napolitano and Kathleen Sebelius
have both been mentioned for cabinet posts. I think Napolitano is up for AG, and Sebelius has been mentioned for any number of other posts.

14. No, and for us here in Arizona, it would be a disaster.
the Lt. Governor is a wing nut, one of the worst. I really don't want to see Janet go, but if Obama needs her... sigh.

18. I think she'll turn it down knowing a Senate seat is ripe for the picking in '10. I hope to God so,
anyhow.

21. It's hard to turn down a request from the person you
worked so hard to get elected. And the AG spot has to be like the 3rd or 4th most powerful cabinet member (SecDef and SecState obviously come before the AG). And if she serves 4 or 6 years, there will always be the opportunity to run for Senate... or be on someone's short list for VP, or even make a run for President herself in 8.

2. As a woman who fought long and hard throughout the feminist
movement, I DON'T CARE if he has a lot of women or none at all! I want him to pick the person best able to do the job, and I honestly think he will!

5. It would not bother you if his cabinet was entirely male?
I would be very shocked if that happened, but if it did, I would think that might bother a lot of people.

17. Why would it bother you? He will pick the best people for the job.
I'm sure that will include women, but if it doesn't, I'm sure he has his reasons.

I think that it would be helpful to have a Cabinet that reflects to some extent the diversity of the United States.

28. No it wouldn't, because I know his choices will not be based on
gender bias.

I happen to think Shrub chose Rice BECAUSE she was a woman...and a black woman too! I'm more offended when a woman is chosen as a token (llike Sarah was too!) than I ever would be if it was apparent that all the positions were filled by very competant people.

To add to the list already mentioned: Former President of the Sierra Club, Lisa Renstrom, has been mentioned for Secretary of the Interior. Caroline Kennedy-Schlossberg is also being mentioned for UN.

And didn't we go down this path with Clinton to disastrous results?

34. I was thinking of his attempts to get a woman in the AG Post
He basically destroyed his first year in office with that.

Albright was fine. By his second term, Clinton had decided to actually appoint competent people as opposed to a cross-section of Democratic interest groups.
