TV Critic slams Lauer (Wimp) and Greta for softball Palin interviews
As much as I hated to see the presidential campaign end last week, there was one happy thought: At least my TV screen would no longer be filled with images of Sarah Palin.

What a fool I was. She is everywhere on TV this week -- from Greta Van Susteren on Fox News, to Matt Lauer on NBC's Today. Sadly, there is even more to come tonight on CNN with Larry King.

And unlike her disastrous interviews with a couple of real journalists in CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric and ABC anchorman Charles Gibson, Palin is running circles around the people she is talking to this week, being allowed to lie left and right while portraying herself as a modest handmaiden of the Almighty willing to walk through any "door" he "opens" for her -- especially if it happens to be at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Lauer and Van Susteren both trekked up to Alaska to get the jump on the 10 million TV interviews she is doing this week. And of the two, Lauer is the biggest disappointment. I expected almost nothing from Van Susteren, who defines bottom feeding both in subject matter and approach to news on cable TV.

But Lauer was such a wimp -- almost as obsequious as the smarmy Sean Hannity in the bended-knees interview the Fox talk show host did with Palin during the election. One of Lauer's lowest moments came when he asked Palin if she felt that Couric had somehow been "unfair" in the questions she asked.

1. I didn't expect much out of Lauer either--he always has struck me as a tool
for the GOP. I've never seen him as a serious news guy. Take away the "Today" show and he has nothing.

say the media should have referred to her MEDICAL RECORDS (never released) to verify Trig's mother.
No one called her on it.

4. I expected softball interviews
but it's so annoying how the media was flogging the "Sarah Palin strikes back!" horse today...she didn't sound any more coherent today than she did last week. She was not candid, she lied her ass off as usual. And the "the newspaper question was condescending to Alaskans!" response is a RW meme, as the author noted. Anderson Cooper said that he gets asked what kinds of newspapers he reads all of the time...Chris Matthews said that people ask him that too. I'm sure many politicans get the question. It's not that abnormal a question. Oh Christ, and I forgot that we have yet to see the Larry King interview.

5. Lauer simply is no Katie Couric. What a lightweight.
To be fair to Lauer, he's not considered a serious journalist.

Let's see how Wolf Blitzer does with Sarah Palin tomorrow. He is known to ask a follow up question now and then.

As much as I think David Gregory is a tool, I'm sure he'd be fairly rigorous with Palin, not wanting to get shown up by the wingnut princess of Alaska.

7. Gregory is an idiot
Remember when he said he thought it was "kinda cool" that Palin flew from Texas back to Alaska after her water broke with Trig? (cough)
"Cool", David? No, more like "clueless", David.

8. Gregory had his head up Rove's ass
and danced with him last year at the annual correspondent's dinner. It is a sight that I will see in my mind every time I see Gregory forever. Now if that won't turn your stomach, what will. He is all for whoever will do more for him. Empty talking head.
