Did anyone on DU donate flowers for Toot? Her reaction was priceless...

I just read this, it's an excerpt from Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama's half sister. She was caring for Madelyn Dunham, Obama's "Toot" up until her death.

I recalled reading on DU inquiries about sending flowers to her, when she was gravely ill. So this excerpt from an email that Soetoro-Ng sent to family and friends, and allowed to be reprinted, reminded me of DU... I loved Obama's grandmother's reaction...

"When she saw the number of flowers that had been sent to her," Soetoro-Ng wrote, "she said, 'Oh my ... with all of this hullabaloo, it's going to be embarrassing if I DON'T die.' I gave her a chuckle and of course told her that I wouldn't at all mind such an embarrassment, and then I invited her to stay and dance with me into the new year. She couldn't stay, but she certainly tried, and defied expectations again and again."

I loved that her comment showed such a maudlin sense of humor. When my sister was dying many years ago, she exhibited the same sense of humor, as did my mother. It shows real character, and a real acceptance and understanding of life and death.
