The election may be over, but Sarah Palin and Katie Couric still don't have particularly nice things to say about each other.

The New York Post's Page Six reports that Couric, asked for her advice to Palin, said, "I think she should keep her head down, work really hard and learn about governing."

Ouch.

In a segment of their interview broadcast Wednesday, Couric's former colleague, Matt Lauer, asked Palin about one question she stumbled on during her conversation with Couric. The former vice-presidential candidate responded:

I'm sure that some of my impatience showed through in that, in that interview. I think it also showed, though, that certainly as a Washington outsider and as somebody not -- not one to just, I guess, kind of play even the campaigning media game that is played in just repeating, perhaps, memorized lines in a -- in an interview, that's not me ... You know, questions about, "What do you read up there in Alaska?" To me, that was kind of a little bit annoying because I'm like, "What do you mean what do I read in Alaska. I read the same things that you guys read in New York and there in L. A. and in Washington State. Who do you mean what do I read up there?" But, anyway, just some annoyance that, certainly, I'm sure showed through. And, you know, perhaps, that annoyance that showed through would have led some to be annoyed with me watching the interview.

For the record, Couric did not ask Palin, "What do you read up there in Alaska?" The question had nothing to do with Alaska. It was just, "And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?"

18. Why is her "sorry ass in the muck"???? She made one huge mistake
a couple of years ago and let the oxycontin addict on for a few minutes.

she has since ended that stupid segment on her show.

not quite sure what much you are talking about.

She's not my favorite, but I respect the interview she did with Palin and exposed her for what she is with fair and unbiased questions.

4. Poor Katie ... her masters are going to make her ask hard questions now
that the Dems are in charge ... no more fluff pieces for Repukes ... and believe me ... the Sarah Palin interview was really supposed to be a puff piece ... and Sarah blew even that ...

"What Supreme Court rulings do you disagree with?"

"Um ..."

(hello, doesn't she disagree with Roe v Wade? That's the key plank of the party platform!)

really tough questions of a variety of powerful people.

15. If I remember right, until Couric headed up the Today Show she was a pretty good journalist
The problem is the Today Show and other morning programs have never been about hard news and I would imagine that years of dishing out softball questions would eventually dull one's instinct to be aggressive with an interview segment.

That said, I think Couric proved she still has the chops. The question is how often she'll be allowed to display them during future interviews.

19. She actually said a coherant sentence in this one, unlike the other 99.8% of the time
Then again, she jumps to a HUGE conclusion at that interview, and apparently no one told her that Couric did not mention anything that could be conceived as an insult to Alaska.

I also find it ironic that she said that campaigning was saying memorized lines, considering her entire acceptance speech ran more scripted than any interview that any of the candidates gave.

8. This is a freak show ...
... and I want my quarter back.

I don't buy it for an instant.

I'm supposed to believe that Katie Couric is now the epitome of tough-as-nails political reporting, that she was so tough and hard on poor Sarah that she tricked her with a question that no one could have answered appropriately because of how insulting it was?

So, next time, am I really and truly supposed to think that when an interview with Couric goes well, when she asks the hardball questions about what newspapers a candidate reads, when the candidate flies through that interview ... well, then, they're just *wonderful* because they survived a by-god Katie Couric interview?

WOW! :wow: Elect that person dictator for life.

The Couric interview was a softball interview. It didn't come across as such because Ms. Palin is one of the most galactically stupid people ever to have run for high office, and the people who were running the campaign and who are now trying to salvage something out of it want you to believe Couric was tough on her, not that she is stupid. She's so concerned with herself and her image that she managed to destroy the image that had been built and hand delivered for her ... because she couldn't name a goddamn newspaper.

Grrrr ...

17. Good post, except for the "Meow" part which is blatantly sexist
If it was Charlie Gibson who said this, would you have started the post with "Meow", don't think so.

Given that you did, I'm sure you'll respond with something doubley obnoxious to this criticism instead of fixing it.

21. the Palin comments trying to explain her lack of answer is typical Palin
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 03:32 PM by TexasObserver
It's a simple question that would be commonly asked of someone seeking the VP. What do you read?

Palin has to characterize it as an insult to Alaskans and all ordinary Americans, however, because that's how she thinks. As do her followers.

IDIOCRACY.
