There is, of course, snark (which I don't think is true) thrown at both but it seems generally complimentary toward them. Bill - ehhh - not so much.

Team of Frenemies

It’s a cool idea, Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.
At long last, the feminist icon would represent the feminist ideal of getting a room of her own, all on her own.

-snip-
And why should the woman who made 18 million cracks go back to being junior to Chuck Schumer, if she could be toasted from Dublin to Dubai?

On the down side, Hillary would be taking over a big and demoralized government bureaucracy, after proving with her campaign that she does not know how to run a big and demoralized group of people.
On the up side, she would never have to exaggerate her foreign policy résumé again; this time, she really would be brokering peace and flying into places where they’d try to fire at her.

And if she worked hard enough — and she would — she could restore clarity to Foggy Bottom, the striped-pants center of diplomacy so maligned and misused by W. and Dick Cheney on their Sherman’s march to war in Iraq and in their overwrought bid to become the only hyperpower.

If Barry chooses Hillary as secretary of state, a woman who clearly intimidated him and taught him to be a better pol in the primaries, it doesn’t signal the return of the Clinton era. It says the opposite: If you have a president who’s willing to open up his universe to other smart, strong people, if you have a big dog who shares his food dish, the Bill Clinton era is truly over.
Appointing a Clinton in the cabinet would be so un-Clintonian.

1. Calling Obama 'Barry', from a Washingtonian, smells of Marion Barry....
That's what 'Barry' means in DC.

And if Hillary Clinton's campaign was so shitty, how come she got 18 million votes and continued to win primaries even at the end of the cycle?

We had two good candidates in a good, close race. Too bad they ran at the same time.

everyone else does. MODO likes Barack. That's been made pretty clear over the past 6 months.

It is like over on Wonkette where they refer to him as Barry and Hopey - not very respectful but they love him.

3. Yes, she does like him, a lot. And I know he was 'Barry' for a long time, BUT...
people in DC - and I'm one - associate 'Barry' with Marion.

It's just weird of her to refer to him that way. Has she done so before? Yes, I gave up reading her.

4. She's called him that before. I've gone through phases of not reading her also.
She is fickle so who knows how long this will last.

9. Oh, Lord, what they did to Gore was a disgrace.
The guilt of helping Bush get into office should haunt their dreams.

you're sorry.

5. it wasn't a close race, stop trying to revise history. It's annoying. Dishonest.

14. It wasn't a close race? Who's the revisionist?
They each had about half of the votes, neither one closed the deal. Obama was ahead by only 127 pledged delegates, he won due to the super delegates.

6. Hillary Behaved Well After She (Finally!) Admitted Defeat
She deserves some respect for that. She's a ferocious politician and not bad at strategy and tactics. Point her in the right direction, and she can do good things.

8. But the question is, are those good things foreign or domestic???
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 12:04 AM by napoleon_in_rags
Moving her to SOS seems almost like she's being gotten "out of the way" to some Hillary supporters: I like her because of her energy and health care stances, I'm not super pleased with her Iraq war stance. Isn't moving her to deal with foreign policy (where she is more centrist and hawkish) sort of an appeasement move to the right? I'll tell you one thing, they don't want her taking a leading role in the legislation that's coming out of congress... :(

10. Kennedy wont give up health care. Every one wants to lead on their issues. They aren't going to
relinquish their seniority for Hillary. That's just normal Senate procedure. It isn't sticking it to Hillary or anything. I guess she asked Teddy to create a subcommittee to deal with Health Care reform but he said no - he wants to do it in the full committee with him as Chairman.

SOS is the most prestigious Cabinet Secretary position - it certainly isn't an insult. That being said, I did read Chuck Todd's analysis http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/11/14/1674694.aspx and understand the reasoning they lay out. If Hillary didn't want to be considered for the job, she would have told Barack that.

12. That's a given. She always does that. It didn't stop her from saying she wanted to crawl up in
Abe's lap at the Lincoln Memorial the night Obama won to celebrate.

20. Kinda stupid..what's "cracks"?
And calling our Prez elect "Barry"? What's up with that?

So what if the government bureaucracy is demoralized? It could be turned around on a dime.
