Bush : "I was ready to go to Vietnam if called" No, really!
Can you just smell the heaping pile of elephant shit here!

Hoo boy!

http://atrios.blogspot.com/2004/09/fun-bush-quotes.html

From an interview with National Guard Review, Winter 1998:

You know if you’re a person taking orders it is pretty easy to think back about whose orders your liked to follow and why.

Two critical lessons on leadership that I did learn, however, were that you never ask your people to do something that you wouldn’t do yourself.

I was ready to go to Vietnam if called. I was a skilled pilot. I could fly … I was too junior to get to go. But had they wanted me, I would have gone. Had they called our unit, I was totally prepared and would have gone.

I can remember walking up to my F-102 fighter and seeing the mechanics there. I was on the same team as them, and I relied on them to make sure that I wasn't jumping out of an airplane. There was a sense of shared responsibility in that case. The responsibility to get the airplane down. The responsibility to show up and do your job.

I do have some experience on border defense. After all, that was my unit’s mission.

Power can be very corruptive.

Well I kept a level head in a time that was pretty chaotic.

7. Pass it on!
On Sept. 11, if you see EVEN ONE Bush campaign ad using 9-11 imagery, call the White House. Pass it on. It's bad enough when he politicizes the deaths of 3,000 Americans on other days. But if he does it on Sept. 11, it'll be an outrage.
Please e-mail EVERYONE YOU KNOW and ask them to do the same!

8. He's been lying about this (and plenty of other things) for years . . .
Standing up to his father might have been part of George W.'s struggle during those years to figure out how to be his own George Bush. He applied to and was rejected by the University of Texas School of Law. He worked for less than a year at a Houston agribusiness company--"A dull coat-and-tie job," he says--and then he worked for a year in an anti-poverty program. On weekends, he flew F-102 fighter jets for the Texas Air National Guard (his father, of course, had flown a bomber in World War II). It has been reported that Bush mysteriously got ahead of a long waiting list to get into the Guard. When I ask him if he tried to avoid the draft, he grins and says, "Hell, no. Do you think I'm going to admit that? You are out of your mind. Let me give you the political answer, Mr. Reporter"--and then he tells me he wasn't dodging anything. He says he even asked to be put on an alert program that could have sent him on a three-month rotation to Vietnam, but he was never called.

Texas Monthly, May 1994

He asked to be put on an alert program? Was that before or after he checked the box that said he did NOT volunteer for overseas program?

15. I just posted a thread on this
Texans for Truth - do they have the * quote re blowing out his eardrum or going to Canada.

Didn't Shrub say he joined TANG because he didn't want to blow out his eardrum or run to Canada?

Wouldn't that be great in an ad by Texans for Truth?

Maybe showing the document stating he did not request duty in Vietnam.

Then show the quote with him (I think there is one) stating that he would have gone if his unit got called up.
