Do DU'ers know why they're Democrats?
Just noticed, talking to a few people, and I think one thing that hasn't been made clear for a lot of voters this year is exactly what Democrats stand for.

I think Bush has been so awful that a lot of people who might have known what Democrats stood for four years ago now just define themselves as being anti-Bush. I think for a lot of people listening to those kinds of arguments it doesn't give them enough reason to vote for Democrats.

So, I think it's important for people, when you're talking to moderates and undecideds to remember to explain to them what you stand for, and to define that in terms that are positive, and not negative. Tell them what you're for, and not what you're against.

I'm for people who work being able to realize their full potential, which includes getting paid as much as possible for their labor. I'm for making it as easy as possible for regular people to do their jobs and raise their families. I don't think concentrating wealth in the bank accounts of already wealthy people is a good enough reason to deny everyone else a chance to make it. i think the threat of terrorism isn't a justification to deny those things to people who work hard for them either.

I think that's what the Democrats stand for this year.

3. What you believe in...you have to work it into a concise narrative
that makes sense to people and makes sense of their lives as they're living them today.

If you can't work it into a statement that explains to people what's happening in the world and why voting Democratic is going to make a difference, then I wouldn't hold my breath for a Kerry victory.

If we can explain ourselves, and if the explanation is compelling, we're going to win.

5. See, I don't know how saying that to someone today who is
hurting would convince them that they really need to vote Democratic.

I'm talking about really compelling people. Really making a light go on when you tell them what you believe in.

11. I think it's not so much about that as it is about giving people
a little lower on the income scale an equal opportunity to get some wealth -- to get a piece of the pie they help bake with their labor.

I think a lot of liberals think that being liberal means rejection wealth. That's a good way to alienate a lot of hard working people trying to do things for the families and their communities and their country.

OK. Yes, being liberal means putting people first -- putting people before property and before profits. But it means giving more people than just the haves a chance at profit and property.

4. Being a progressive to me means...
Being PROGRESSIVE, NOT regressive. Sorry, rightwingnuts, but Leave it to Beaver 1950's are OVER and it just ain't coming back.

Being progressive means helping ALL AMERICANS live a full life; it means extending a helping hand to ALL AMERICANS in need of one.

It means NOT having Daddy Darkest rule over us like we're 10 year old children.

It means NOT ignoring the majority of American citizens, like bush did in his invasion of Iraq.

It means NOT lying lying lying to the American people.

It means NOT robbing the poor and middle-class to give to the ultra-rich.

It means NOT having a father AND a son as presidents in a nation of 294 million people.

It means NOT having biased media.

I means LIVE AND BLOODY WELL LET THE FUCK LIVE. To me. :)

8. I'm NOT a democrat, but I share a good deal of their views...
I have liked Republicans in the past, my mom is an elected Republican, but she is a moderate! She does what is intelegent. My abger towards the Republican party strews from their HATE machine. My mom ran for state ofice twice, unsuccesfully because she is pro-choice, which mean she is for abortions according to the "Pro-Lifers".

The funniest thing is, I never knew my mom worked at an abortion clinic, it must have been hard workin gin invetro durring the week, helping women get pregnant, then on the weekends helping women get un-pregnant.... (jkng)

Dumbass Pro-Lifers!
