Poll question: Where would you most like to see the Obama Administration recruit appointees from?
Edited on Sat Nov-22-08 12:47 AM by Ken Burch
Also, if you'd like to put out names you know of that the larger groups of us might not have heard of, mention them here(and send them to Change.gov)and tell us and them about them.

Let's use this as a positive space to get progressive appointee names into circulation

("subsidies") tax breaks, bailouts, (as if corporations & the war profiteers pay any taxes).

Universal Health Care!

For all...insurance co. will fight it...they've had it great for O so Long.

3. You're talking policies(policies I agree with, just so you know)
This thread is more about where the appointees should be recruited from. That can have an important effect on what policies are implemented and how they are carried out.

16. Academia has been hand raised by the Corporations to breed Corporate friendly drones.
With the goverment starving higher education, the Corporations stepped in and make sure that students are educated in doing things the Corporate way, and have no regard for the bigger picture.

The "war president". Destroy ALL of prez Roosevelt's New Deal, which the re4publicabs have always despised & fought against. And why not?

We hate the workers, they are after all, OUR peasants...if not...we'll go somewhere else & cheaper. BushCo loves us.

13. "10 year rule" for Secretary of Defense
As in, you have to be out of the military for 10 years before you can hold that job. Gen. Clark retired in 2000, so he wouldn't be eligible until 2010.

However I've heard the possibility of Congress making an "exception".

The reason for the rule is so the Pentagon will be under civilian leadership, but the example of Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/Feith/Zakheim/etc. proves that isn't any guarantee of success.

9. Here is a cabinet roster along with their "progressive" ranking. Van Jones is a great example.
Go rank your picks: http://backbonecampaign.com/cabinet/

The Backbone Campaign, Progressive Government, and a coalition of grassroots organizations have initiated a process to empower citizens to nominate, comment on, and rate progressive leaders to serve as a virtual Progressive Parallel Administration. We want to demonstrate that the progressive movement is not merely an oppositional, but also propositional movement, and that we are not content running campaigns, but preparing to run the country.

Phase II of this project is Conversations with the Cabinet a weekly webcast conference call and podcast, designed to create links between grassroots activists and our most effective policy and movement leaders. Join the email list to be notified of opportunities to participate in these calls.

10. needs an all of the above
i didnt vote because i think we need to use all these avenues
i am against the wholesale installation of former clinton people
i am against stripping the senate for cabinet positions
i hope most of his chioces are people outside of government and its groupthink

so it really needs an all of the above utilizing the best in the best slots

15. I agree. I didn't vote either for just about the same exact reasons.
I would like to see some qualified hard working progressives/liberals in the mix. I think PE Obama
sees untapped talent there- he too was an active community organizer and look what happened!

Finding a balance of the right people to coalesce and deliver results could be his legacy.
Think of the people that are Fired Up and Ready to Go to work on his behalf. We must succeed.
