Th world changed dramatically.

I'm not sure we ever really recovered from it yet.

But I'm optimistic for the first time in decades.

Keep him safe, Secret Service.

2. And the ones responsible will go to their death bed unpunished.
We can only hope that there is an afterlife where justice is done.

4. I can still remember where I was when the news came....
My mom, sister, and I were in the grocery store, in line, when the cashier told my mom. I remember my mom saying; this is just awful, we've got to get home right away. She was very shocked and upset. I'm pretty sure she was a republickin back then too. I don't remember much after that, but I think it was the first time I had seen my mom so upset. Werid that I remember it.

5. And I remember it like it was last year
I don't think I'll ever forget that day and the following ones. My world, as an eleven-year old, came to a standstill as we were glued to the tv. Which is why we say the Oswald shooting live.

6. Taking a break from studying Goldstein's Classical Mechanics,
I flipped on the TV in time to hear the terrible news that JFK had been shot. Then there was the confirmation of the truth of that news. Then the devastating news that JFK was dead.

It has taken 45 years to give me back hope. President Elect Obama gives me that hope. I love him, as I loved JFK.

7. I remember. I was eight years old...
Edited on Sat Nov-22-08 09:10 AM by nomaco-10
I remember having a funny feeling at school that something was wrong. When we were let out, I saw the parking lot was full of cars, all the parents had come to pick up their children which was really unusual because everyone rode the bus at that time.

I remember all the parents were very quiet and had their car radios on. I remember thinking that they all looked as if all the color had drained from their faces. It was kind of surreal.

I also have a vivid memory of watching Oswald being shot by Jack Ruby on TV and of course, the funeral.

I was older when Bobby got shot. It hit me really hard and still does to this day. I adored him and thought he would have made a wonderful president.

For many years a great many people would share their story and ask the question, "Where were you when JFK got shot?". Now it's 9-11. I hope we never again have to deal with anything that could remotely compare to either event in this country so that future generations will never have to feel compelled to ask someone they meet, Where were you when...

8. I was in high school that day.
I ran into a fellow student sobbing and asked what was the matter. She told me. She had skipped school a day or two before to greet President Kennedy in Tampa and had actually shook his hand. She was inconsolable. I will never forget driving home from school with my friends that day. No one spoke. The sadness was overwhelming. I want to cry just thinking about it. Tears are in my eyes. For this reason, having experienced that most profound sense of loss, that sense of complete helplessness, please, please watch over President Elect Obama. Please.
You are right. We have never recovered. We never will.

9. I was in 6th grade
I was a Patrol Boy (back before seniors were crossing guards) We got back to school "after the bell" and went to eat lunch. When we got the the cafeteria we were greeted by the principle who told us "something terrible had happened" but he wanted us to eat lunch then go to the science room (it had a TV. The staff was siting around a table lessoning to a radio and for the first time I saw some of my teacher's crying.

10. I went down to Dealy Plaza when it had been 40 years
and it was so moving. There was a huge, HUGE crowd of people and everyone stayed for hours. Just sitting. Right at the time it had happened a group gathered in the street where he had been (the city has as an "x" on the street) and we all sang "God Bless America", I think, or some similar song.
Think I may take the light rail down there today to see if anything is going on.
The sad, but not surpising part, is that NO Dallas city official was at the rememberence gathering to speak or watch. None. Didn't even recognize it or sponser it. Think it was put together by the 6th floor museum.

11. I was a senior in HS
In class when another teacher ran by saying the president had been shot. We all asked "what president?" We couldn't fathom that it was our president, JFK. Classes were let out and everyone gathered together outside listening to the loud speaker playing the news. Our family was glued to the tv for the next few days watching the coverage. My parents cried. We all did.

Years later I visited Dallas and it still didn't seem real to me.
