Remember my R friends? Need some things to ease worried brows here.

Just to let anyone who reads this know, my R friends have shown a ton of class. I've been hugged, had my hand shaken, told "Congratulations"

I need a link to the website Obama set up for the transition, and some easy to read/understand info on what to expect the first year. My friends really do, without malice, believe the Meme of it's going to be a tax and spend admin. They are deeply concerned that their bad situation is just going to get worse.

The last thing these people need is MORE angst, unnecessary concern over what's going to happen in the next four years. Of the three couples, two are drowning in debt and one of them has a baby on the way.

This is the PERFECT time to start easing them over to either Indy or Dem, gently- a little at a time. I just need the information to spoon feed them a little along the way.

I want to accomplish two things: get that worry off their backs, and get them to see that the core of the R party really isn't for them anymore.

Any help would be appreciated.

3. Here it is:
Hi, MOF. The website is http://www.change.gov and there is a lot of info on the various issues there. I applaud you for doing this- This may be an excellent chance to start gently steering your friends toward the Dems. I'm glad that your friends have been so gracious and kind since the election.

5. They are definitely keepers-

They have been beyond gracious. I love them with all my heart, and they have been more than tolerant when I "switched" sides so to speak. I'm trying to think of good talking points to inject into conversations as well.

One couple and I have a mutual friend who has been with his partner for about a year. He and his partner ended up moving to Wa state because even in this day and age it's still pretty difficult to live here in NC and not get funny looks, comments etc.

They adore him, and the core of the R party thinks they don't deserve rights. So I was thinking I could bring him up, and ask how he's doing etc. (I would anyway) Then talk about marriage/unions.

Another couple, the one with the baby on the way, is worried to death about taxes. I want to point them at the changes Obama wants to implement about child tax credit and home ownership.

The last couple, the wife is going to college and it's putting a horrible strain on them. I want to point her to what Obama wants to do for tuition.

The majority of them are Police/medical related, and I for the life of me can't find any information on what Biden was talking about: IE needing more PD on the streets and better training. Along with holding PD's accountable for bad actions.

6. This post deserves a rec & a kick. There are so many people who
have been so badly served by the media that we can ALL take this opportunity to help nervous people along.

This may be the Country's Best Teaching Moment in a generation.

8. Glad your friends have been nice--and I can see why. You are a good friend to want to "enlighten"
them in the most thoughtful possible ways. Good on you.

Recommending.

11. Tax hikes are a few years off yet
Democrats are the party of fiscal RESPONSIBILITY. You can't raise taxes (except on the uber-wealthy) in times of economic recession and deflation. Once the economy is stabilized it is a different story.

This country is underfunded by a tune of about 25%. There is very little pork out there to cut - it's totally insignificant. The only target therefore is the sacred cow of military spending. Sorry, but that's the truth.

The people demand more public programs, not less. Republicans purposely undermine these programs in order to turn people against them. Democrats need to turn this around and make government programs models of efficiency.

The Republican leadership has a one track strategy. Cut taxes at all costs - even if it shows utter irresponsibility - and force Democrats to always look like the bad guys because we have to raise them to avoid runaway debt. It's the responsible thing to do - the grown up thing to do.

Your Republican friends need to understand that there's no free lunch. A strong middle class, compassion and opportunity for the poor, and responsible management of the economy are traits of Democratic leadership, not Republican. We are all in this together.

12. Raise taxes and cut military.
It's like losing weight. Everyone looks for an easy way out. Newest fad diets etc... when the formula is easy, cut your balanced portions and exercise. Same thing here. Tax the wealthy (lets say 250K+), increase capital gains, and cut the military spending. We could cut 75% minimum and defend ourselves just fine.
